Precisely. ;)

If your game doesn't even show errors, they won't appear.

So what should I press in message window "Remove code snippets",than I have disabled error messages?

If you've disabled error messages, then it doesn't really matter (unless of course you're logging errors too; I don't recommend doing neither, because that way you are less likely to find bugs).
Anyway if you really are struggling to choose, just pick one at random - it doesn't affect anything else besides errors.

I too am wondering if there will be an update for GM 8.1 as I am about to release a game and would really like to have it protected before I do. Thank you.

I doubt there's any need to do so, there's no decompiler for 8.1 yet (as far as i know) and given the regular updates, the encription will change regularly.. plus, there should be a new version of the decompiler and the antidecompiler each time a new update of GM comes out.. its not only hard work, but also a bit useless..

Do you feel that Game Maker 8.1's encryption is secure enough and will continue to be so as updates come out? I would rather not take the chance on more then a year and a half of my life's work being screwed with.

Thanks.

Yeah, you never know :P

But anyway, lets face the fact here that if you can undertand the code there's no need to decompile a game and rip it off.. as for grafics, i dont care.

The more time you spend on graphics (and music!), the more you care about them.

Just saying :P

Honestly I'm a lot more confident about the new encryption scheme, it definitely beats the simple swap tables they were using before.
(And unless it ever becomes necessary [e.g. decompiler appears, or format docs appear] I don't think I will update this to GM8.1)

Well I already know of someone who has cracked the encryption and as far as I know documented the format (since its just small updates to the gmk format). I'm sure a decompiler will emerge sooner then later.

Some people may not care if their games get decompiled. But many, myself included, do. Especially with the increasing number of games that are multiplayer or highscore, its annoying to have people tampering with the code and you having to deal with it.

I do hope that an update gets released soon, but I can always work with people to create custom security. Its just more hassle to deal with.

:( I just learned that there is now a GM8.1 decompiler.

For my part, passwords and php urls to send/get data to my website appears in my game's source... This is a real serious problem... :\

Please make your anti-decompiler compatible with GM8.1 , it's probably a huge work but we all really need it. I personnaly would even pay for it.

Agreed, im on the same situation right now.. :(

Ps: i notified Mike Daily about the decompiler, he said the encription will be changed for the next update.. but if the first encription was hacked, the new one will be hacked too.. so..

I assume that making an anti-decompiler and UPX method for GM 8.1 is problematic due to the constant updates? If not, I'd like to see this working for GM 8.1.

I've been procrastinating really hard over the last few days (well, that and revising for / taking a chemistry exam), but I've finally got around to writing an Anti-Decompiler for GM 8.1.91. (Latest version at time of writing). It will not work for other versions of Game Maker 8.1 yet. I haven't updated the compressor, it's a mess of hardcoded if()s. I plan to make it actually read the DAT files that are freely available to it some time. >_<

As always, please PM me with any bugs you find, it gets into my email account and makes me take notice of it.

---

Edit - Updated again. Now it can compress any output without needing a second EXE. Also rewrote the source again. Still backwards compatible with older (gm*.dat, not ad*.dat) .dat files for no good reason whatsoever.

Hmm.. I don't really see the need for 'extra' protection. If you are selling a game then I could see the need for an anti-decom to prevent piracy. Or as others have pointed out about having multiplayer games that send data to a webhost. However, most of the games on YoYogames aren't even worth trying to steal in the first place.
