Thanks for the replies!

@GTA
I'll probably add that in the new version

@jwheeler
Thanks for the idea. Some are better than others, but I'll consider most of them :whistle:

@WarriorGamers
Haha, I'm afraid I must disagree and bask in modesty.

lets say you make your cars
image_xscale.5

the headlights stay large and off of the car

now it isn't as simple as you think, if you try to shrink the headlights they just shrink but don't stay near the car...

so you'd assign the x and y origin to the front of the car, so it'll always be there. or use lengthdir_

Thanks much for making this. I've been working on top-down racing AI for a while now, and I've got some decent cars driving themselves around a track now, but I could never get collisions to work just like I want them to.

this is awsome!!!

the drifting works almost realisticly...

i found a problem...with the hovercar...when your reversing and your at about half the max reverse speed and you start accelerationg you cant thrown so fast that the speed thing said it was going about 20000 speed...

This engine is perfect for one of my projects! (I'm excited) You're right, the physics aren't perfect, but it seems like they're on their way to BEING perfect. Hat's off to you, Chaz. Great job so far. Keep workin' on it. I actually just stumbled on to this by mistake. I was searching for help figuring out how to use data structures (which I'm still trying to figure out), when I came across your cool banner. So, instead of working on my space TDS, I spent the evening messin' around with GearShift. I must say, this is the best top-down car example I've seen yet using GM.

You're welcome. I'd love to see this if you'd pm it to me :)

Thanks. I'll look into that bug.

Thanks for your detailed reply. I'm glad you like the engine so far (And that you're excited <_<). Hopefully you'll make something nice with it, and if you do; please share it with us!

- add gears but make it automatic for now (get a rev counter etc...) you can only get to certain speeds in different gears, and the acceleration tails off at high revs.

You should also have the ability to customize the revs and the amount of gears (many 90's american sedan sedans got a 4 speed automatic while some new cars got seven gears (bmw, mercedes) and some older cars maybe less then 4) and if possible make the tranmision configurable between AUT and MAN at the car selection screen.

I have no intention of adding gears, sorry. I have done it before and although it worked, it wasn't what I was looking for.

tbh it's not hard to add gears yourself. i've been modifying this for my needs.

I'm working on:
- having the view rotate with the car (but with a angular speed lag (the view catches up with the car))
- I have added joystick turning. but is very basic. i need to make the handbrake button separate from that script
- particles flying from individual wheels.
- i will add gears and rev counter
- i will add skid marks.

once complete i will upload and pm to chaz13 out of coutesy.

This sounds good :( I'd appreciate it if you don't post it in another topic in Tutorials and Examples (But feel free to post it in WIP section or wherever else). I'll happily add a link to it in the main post, and say it was created by you. Please make sure there's credit for me in theres somewhere, too :D

tbh i was planning on just making it for myself and for you. not releasing it to everyone else. maybe if i give it to you, you could link to the file in your first post, and just say its a modification by me.

but atm i don't have much free time so.....

oh and btw. you should add some sounds, so people know when it's wheel spinning

Sure, I'd post it on the front page. And I may add sound in the next version, when I finish with Gore I'll start work on it. Just for reference- I am able to and have added gears, but they weren't working with how I wanted the engine. I want it for slight, casual fun rather than die-hard racing game.
