System Lord is an Real-Time Strategy game, following a race of aliens called the Goa'uld. They feud with one another endlessly and are in a constant power struggle. The player starts out as a small-time Goa'uld who must rally his forces against his enemies and gain the coveted title of 'System Lord'.

Gather resources, and build fleets to attack your enemies.

I have never had a problem with gm games lagging.

After looking at Fede-lasse RTS example, I have concluded that the motion planning system is at fault. Selecting and moving large number of unit or the enemy moving large number of units really makes this game lag. As far as I can tell, scince the System Lord game doesn't have any walls, it doesn't need advanced pathfinding such as the one provided in the example. Personally, I would use a system that uses game maker's gravity function instead of the mp pathfinding functions.

Thanks for shedding some light on that! I've removed the path-finding code and replaced it with something a lot simpler, just download the fixed .exe in the first post.

Have you thought about adding more civilizations other than the Ghould? It would be fun to play as the Ori, Asgard, Wraith. I know it is about the System Lords but they have been know to fight these guys.

I SWEAR i will play this when i get time!

edit:OK i finally got time to play it. I thought the opening cinematic was a nice change from all the ther GM games, and the RTS and FoW engines were used well. I did think the backgrounds were very bland though, and even though i liked most of the music, it doesn't loop!

Overall, i'd give it an 8/10 for good use of the engines and the opening cinematic and theme;there is so much more you can add to this, though!

Beautiful graphics, pretty good gameplay... Lagged a bit for me, unfortunately. But I enjoyed it. :P

I can't get past the "espionage" level. I can smash just about anything, but when the enemy builds something off the map where gunfire can't reach, I'm stuck.

The best way to fix this is to have gunfire expire on a timer and eliminate the map edge barrier. The following is one possibility:

Glider shots - 30 steps
Al'kesh shots - 55 steps
Ha'tak shots - 80 steps

Another weird "feature": If I build several research stations close together at the same time, some upgrades don't decrease the available points. You might want to have only icons around the station once complete as you have a legend on the left.

One more upgrade type to consider--construction. This would affect the time needed to build objects, ships, etc. Later in the game I reach the upper limit of both money and ore rather quickly. Those limits may need an extra digit each.

@Game Wraith: First build a solid (5-6) fleet of Tel'taks to build up your ore. Then start flagging planets--they will eat damage while your ships pound the enemy. Upgrade speed first, then weapons or defense. Speed works on the cargo ships as well as the warships, meaning more ore.

Once your ore supply is solid start building dry docks and bombers. Gliders are useful only to mark neutral planets and clear mines. The Al'kesh is your fighter until the Ha'tak shows up.

downloading right now, sounds good, also, a stargate game is always welcome for me

edit: the game was really good, even if i saw those graphics before :D .
For some reason when i press "1" it sends me to the next mission... quite annoying, i had to watch the whole intro AGAIN :S lol

Well, if you ever want to skip the opining sequence, just go to the "select Level" thing on the menu to go straight to the first level.

Really awesome game, dunno why it hasn't got more replies. Anyway, I would like to review your game in GMTech (I am a reviewer there, and I really liked your game so...). If you have any problems, whatsoever, with me reviewing it for GMTech, please let me know.

Looks pretty nice. While watching the intro I pressed enter to try and skip it and it started over. I really didn't want to watch it again but did anyway. So I started playing the game and bumped space bar. It when back to the intro...
There was no way Im watching it 3 times

You can skip the intro by just going to the 'select level' thing on the menu

Thats good game! I found one glitch.
When i constructed 3 shipdocks, eatch below another, and i putted them to construct hata'ks. When I clicked on first one, the menu opened with the second shipdock's menu, which was below it. When I clicked on the first menu, the shipyard 2 started to construct the hatak. When i did it again, another hatak started to build in the second yard. The third one worked fine. But however i tryied to get a ship into a first one, the ship went to the second.

If I want to move on minimap, then it starts selecting an units group. Very annoying. And it gets very very laggy (6000+, 9800GT, 4GB DDR2-800), if I recruit many units. That's why I stopped playing it in the middle of the first mission.

Incredible fun! That was WICKED, working through all those levels for a few hard days, then discovering that you're playing as
QUETESH! (I hate that character.) Show wise, Thoth was Anubis's stooge for a while, he didn't die in Apophis's time.

Once it froze and crashed forcing me to restart. Also, the "new game" intro doesn't work after once, it freezes. And you have to be careful NEVER to press spacebar in the game.

Decent, but not enough strategy involved (7/10)


Pros: The Sound, Story, and Graphics were decent, but could have been better.

Cons: 1) There were quite a few glitches in the game (but no fatal errors). 2) Also, no strategy was involved (other than expansion) and there were a mere 3 types of warships. 3) After the most powerful warship, the Ha'tak, is unlocked, the 2 types of previous warships become useless

While this game's story, graphics, and sound are all decent, the game engine is not foolproof, and it does not allow for many winning strategies other than expanding and bulding the most powerful warships available.

A few main points:
1) I have a 2.4 GHZ Intel Core 2 Quad Machine, and I experienced lag after building over 100 units.
2) Also, when I clicked the minimap to move to another map position, the units that were currently selected became deselected. This is an annoying issue that should be fixed.
3) After I unlocked the Ha'tak, the entire game became nothing more than a race to build them.
4) Sometimes, when I attacked a ship, its health went negative, and it took a while to be destroyed.
5) Also, the text could be considered "hard to read" because of its size.

To make it better:
1) Add more units with different abilities, like a hijacking unit to capture enemy ships, an artillery unit, or some other unit with a strategic ability.
2) Make the Ha'Tak less powerful, or make a specific anti-Ha'Tak ship.
3) Try to remove the lag by using more efficient coding.

This is a good idea, but I think you could make it better by adding more strategic units and improving the engine.

I protest with the above. After unlocking the Ha'tak the other ships were still incredibly useful. The Ha'tak isn't too powerful in comparison. And the game is rather strategic. Unless of course you build a dozen Ha'taks and pummel everyone. I'm never patient enough for that so I sneak around hacking away the enemy forces. ;)

EDIT: Oh, the "calm" music can get rather annoying sometimes though. Now whenever I watch the show and hear the music I think of your game!

Though I like the game, I would like to play it as free. I mean without missions. Like Skirmish. But I would be against just three-four maps. It would be boring. It would be better, if the map would be generated. Anyway, great game!

Okay so i downloaded this.

The openning scene made me think 'nice'.
But then i hit a bunch of buttons trying to skip the talking. This meant I saw the same part twice.
The actual missions themselves weren't bad. There was no explaination that i couldn't build the warships at the beginning.
Some of them cut away right when i was getting into them which was to say the least frustrating.
The graphics were fitting, good and the went well together.

I found a couple glitches with my limited play time including:
Placing Dry Docks and research facilities where there wasn't enough space.
Beening able to constantly click the +'Speed' on the research selection.
And a constantly flickering planet
