and yet i stand to say that i find all these topics boring. hopefully yoyo will release a comp which relates to something i like.

Which theme would you like? I personally would like a Summer theme soon. We have had Winter so why not Summer?

Why not make your competition04 entry summer-themed? I personally wouldn't like a summer theme as, in fact, every game would qualify for it, provided it undergoes a graphical metamorphosis.

Agreed. But i think a mystery theme would be good for a competition. Again, not just depending on graphics. And goodluck to everyone entering the competition!

One word: nukes. Maybe they are not an environmental issue per se, but would certainly cause some if you launched a bunch.

So, yeah, nukes. ^_^

Perhaps focus more on the software than the website?

It's not like the programmers are handling the website. They are ninjas in the shadows.

I heard, they type 50 lines of code in less then a wink of a human eye.

Also, I got a demo of my competition 04 game out.

I know, it seems like a lot. I have decided to challenge myself and finish the game in 50 hours, not straight.
Once I get the game done, I might start adding some bug fixes and minor updates. Like another mode and effects and such. I might even have to make another game for the competition as I would surely get bored.

I've got a great idea for a game! Not telling, but it has to do with aliens! (like we didn't see that coming)

Guys, I really ment as a whole. GM still has a lot of bugs and flaws that ruins most of these games, sadly.

As a total anti-environmentalist, I'm probably going to take the option of spoofing radical environmentalists...

You mean GameMaker itself? Like what?

I didn't really mean the maker... That's fine :(
It's the execution of everything in the GM game that's slow and buggy...

1. It's really slow (GML -> Delphi Code -> ASM -> Binary -> Machine Code ... I may have messed the order up, but I'm pretty sure). This also means, the user needs a really high-end computer to just have 500 objects - that does nothing - in their game.

2. There are a lot of bugs in it. Go to GMLjoint.com and take a look at the GML Reference forum category. There, you will find numberous bugs in GM discovered by several users (Including me :)).

That's it. Do you agree?

Whether people agree or disagree is not really for discussion here, this topic is about the competition itself. OK GM has bugs but the point is that nobody is disadvantaged as everyone has the same set of tools at their disposal. If the competition had GM competing with another programming language then you'd have a stronger case, it would still not belong here but people would see where you are coming from.

Wow, I actually started a 'save the planet' game before knowing about this.

I like the fact that it's save the planet from anything, because it can be very hard to make a fun environmental game.

It seems there's plenty of time for this.
I think I might take part in this competition. Now, if Instant Play worked correctly for me...

Is it ok to use this sound/sprite/resource? I'm not sure about copyright?
Not really. Make sure you have permission to use all resources. In most cases this is easy, for music and sounds try googling "Free sounds". In a few situations you're going to have to get in touch with the creator.

That's one thing I've wondered about these contests. I'm not sure this rule is followed very often. Even the winners of previous contests have sometimes used copyrighted material without consequence (I could name a few but I don't want to get them in trouble, it's usually just the music, since copyrighted sprites are more obvious). But, why have a rule if you're not going to enforce it? I know it's hard to recognize the difference between copyrighted music and music someone claims to have permission for, but it's still kind of disappointing to see games winning which ripped music right out of commercial sources.

I was going to join this contest but I can't think up any good game ideas that would have any chance... All my ideas would probably be super lame and wind up being a waste of time.

How do you propose that the judges become familiar with every song and graphic ever produced?
