I suppose I was one of v lucky ones then, huh... maybe it's completely fixed now, yay, it's fixed.
Edit: Go Avast whoo, whoot, but why does it take longer with thorough scans than a average scan is something wrong with my anti-virus for not going past 0% while doing a thorough scan within 2 hours, just to get 1%, usually with average it only takes a hour and a half, which is ok for scanning 32 gigabytes I guess.
Took me around 9 hours the other day to do a thorough scan on a 320gb drive.

:s
Avast only took like 30 minutes->an hour to scan my 150 GB HDD.

if you are redirected to to a page saying these forums may cause harm, it would be from a previous tracking virus from another website. a virus that tracked your history and found that this website is your most visited. check what other websites you have been on... like myspace for example..
any virus's you have on your computer would be caused by a different website you have been on. or a file you have downloaded.

You do know files can be downloaded onto your computer without your permission, right? How do you think the internet works?

I'm preatty sure those past couple of viruses were connected to this site somehow, because I havn't really been going to any other sites other than this one and my 2 college sites. Now what are the chances that all those other people go to the same college sites as I do? FTM what are the chances that my secure college sites have been affected and yet no one there has mentioned it? And if there was never anything wrong on this site then what was it that Cronic keept removing?

However, IE has lied many times about it's features. They say that it's speedy, Firefox, Chrome, and Opera all run faster.

I know I'll regret making a post about browsers but...
I've heard the latest beta of IE is twice as fast as Firefox 3

As far as the virus goes, I think the gmc could of done a better job informing people of the problem than just a topic in the community section.

It existed, I know people who were affected by it and had to delete it off their computer, I may have it for all I know, I don't have an up-to-date anti-virus.

An iframe was inserted on these forums that lead to several exploits, including getting personal data ActiveX (MSIE), downloading viruses through Javascript (all browser/Windows only) and Javascript XSS exploits (all capable browsers/multiplatform). Really you can't be more stupid then that:
-How can you know if it was attacked if now it is fixed?
-Are you saying know more about the internet then I and those that fixed the problems (which are professional web developers) do?
-You are actually not believing in an official annoucement and the moderators/admins replies?
-You really think this topic would have survived if it where a hoax?

QUOTE

You do know that not all files from the internet are automatically downloaded? Certain files which the browser can't handle are NOT downloaded without user permission. Such files include executables like exe,dll,ocx... which are the files that contain viruses.

Nearly twice. But that bis because firefox does a better job in caching then IE. At this point this is just user opinion which one to prefer. Still, it is totally stupid for people to compare speeds, especially when the difference is in milliseconds or a couple of seconds.

It wasn't "just one virus". Please see my first note in this reply.

This topic is about an infection that's gone. So now, this topic is about nothing.

PS: Google Chrome did download exe's if you put them in the <img> tag.

Now that is an Idea let GMC contact thousands of people that they have a problem. I think before they did that the problem would have been fixed if GMC knew of the problem.

I've got FF3 and I got some kind of warning inside my webbrowser. But I pressed "Continue anyway" because I know that GMC is not a trojan or something.. I've got Symantec and SpyWare Doctor...

EDIT: The message said something like that the site looked suspicious

Walter1996 - The warning is correct but outdated, because the problem is fixed.

Then WHY POST HERE? Honestly, if you aren't concerned about this topic, then go away.

I believe Chronic used some of the information in this topic when dealing with the malware. When HE decides the topic need closing, then HE will close it.

Otherwise, just let it die. Why does every "completed" topic have to closed?

Uhm maybe for those who weren't on the GMC for the last week: and now wonder why the warning is in place for firefox?

Otherwise I bet that there will be like 1e12 topics coming "why do I get a warning when trying to go to the gmc?"
