@TD games:
Try avast. It's a full suite instead of AVG which is only AV. I personally like it more. |

I'm on a computer in my college - any chance of this pc being affected? Doubt it. Besides, it's gone now. I installed an antivirus because of this "problem", I haven't had an antivirus since I reinstalled Vista about 6 months ago, and I didn't have one single virus. (Avast!) I'm thinking you had to use IE or do something stupid to get it. This post has been edited by Shining_Saber: Sep 9 2008, 08:05 PM |

For me IE wanted to install a ActiveX plugin when we had the problem..
For added security anyone with Firefox i suggest NoScript, which will stop any java, javascript and flash running from a domain, if theres multiple domains in that page, each 1 will have to be added to the whitelist. Good for advertising, won't show them inless their images. NoScript is saying that the homepage is now clean Happy surfing, and watch out, apparently 1 in 10 sites have drive by viruses! |

Yes, and inbetween his cleaning of the forum and now another popped up.QUOTE So this topic should be closed now. Leave that conclusion to the moderators please (it does not look like you have the neccessary oversight over what is happening).

It's gone now ragarnak, i have been refreshing the homepage, and it's not appearing anymore. It could've been a glitch, unless there was an attack again.

I know this seems random but will IE 8 fix this if it were to happen in the future? (Which I hope it doesn't)

coolist/GMREC - This is not a browser issue. No one would like their site filled with viruses even if they are not downloadable.
Plus, as I said before, don't really too much on certain false affirmations. There's one bug in Chrome which is really terrible in my opinion. Especially when they affirmed their browser is secure. The worst part is the same as the Firefox fiasco, people start inventing things about the browser. Sure Firefox is good, but it ain't the best. It looks even worse (to me at least) with the confusing myths and plainly flat lies. And no, this is not for Firefox only, it applies to just about all the other browsers. Except IE I might add, which as far as I know, they never lied about it's issues (unlike the other browsers). If any browser was the best, it would be the one and only. Also, in reply to Chronic, I am glad they did the patch. One thing remains. I've heard about an exploit where the first user ID is a super user ID and still exists in the forum (that is, Mark's profile). I am not sure if it was ever fixed, just naming it in case you knew anything. This time though, I can't reccomend any fixes. This post has been edited by uuf6429: Sep 10 2008, 10:38 AM |

I saw Mark reading this thread yesterday, but he didn't post anything. No need to jump to conclusions though. |

I suppose I was one of v lucky ones then, huh... maybe it's completely fixed now, yay, it's fixed.
Edit: Go Avast whoo, whoot, but why does it take longer with thorough scans than a average scan is something wrong with my anti-virus for not going past 0% while doing a thorough scan within 2 hours, just to get 1%, usually with average it only takes a hour and a half, which is ok for scanning 32 gigabytes I guess. I do agree with the fact that there is no "ultimate browser". However, IE has lied many times about it's features. They say that it's speedy, Firefox, Chrome, and Opera all run faster. Oh, I'd like to hear about this "Firefox fiasco", by the way. I've used it ever since my friend made me use it instead of IE a few years back, and I really do have to say its more secure, faster, and more customizable. |

QUOTE However, IE has lied many times about it's features. Quite the opposite. Officially, the only text and specifications written about IE are always true. One important thing to note here is that IE is never (officially) comparred t other browsers, and when they say it's faster, it is compared to it's older versions, rather then other browsers. Firefox on the other hand has been exagerated and attributed with a lot of lies.The fiasco is there, the firefox team describes their browser rightfully, and the fans exagerate thinking about the great deal of "good reputition" they are giving to the browser. Sure, Firefox is good, but it is (in my opinion) the worst marketed browser ever. Due to the problems mentioned above, I wouldn't trust Firefox anything else then testing. QUOTE They say that it's speedy, Firefox, Chrome, and Opera all run faster. That's another myth. First "they" don't say it's "faster then the other browsers". In any case, this benchmark is not at all reliable for various reasons. As someone mentioned above, Firefox is faster at opening tabs. On my computer, IE loads faster then Firefox 3.As you see, the speed one gains somewhere looses it elsewhere. QUOTE Oh, I'd like to hear about this "Firefox fiasco", by the way. Told you what's wrong with it. I dislike their marketing strategies, in fact I think they are even more dishonest then MS's distributing IE with Windows. Actively discourage the use, force or agree about the user's choice of browser is highly unethical and dishonest. Especially when browser owners doesn't exactly know what they are getting into.Say what you like, but the first thing most developers / technicians would need in a new installation of windows is a browser. IE does the taks easily without hassle. If you want any other fancy browser, you can get it later on. QUOTE I've used it ever since my friend made me use it instead of IE a few years back, and I really do have to say its more secure, faster, and more customizable. Firefox is quite good. But with the technical problems and people's bad habits, I've limited myself from its use.Also, as to customization, I think Firefox without extentions could be very well nearly just as any other browser. I suppose I was one of v lucky ones then, huh... maybe it's completely fixed now, yay, it's fixed. Took me around 9 hours the other day to do a thorough scan on a 320gb drive.Edit: Go Avast whoo, whoot, but why does it take longer with thorough scans than a average scan is something wrong with my anti-virus for not going past 0% while doing a thorough scan within 2 hours, just to get 1%, usually with average it only takes a hour and a half, which is ok for scanning 32 gigabytes I guess. |
