Description:
Crime Life 3 is the third instalment of the crime life series.
Crime Life is a free roaming third person shooter where you have a choice to follow the story or just roam the city looking for secrets, hijacking cars and killing pedestrians, but beware of the cops, they will come after you.
Crime life not only has a main plot but also side quests, you can deliver burgers for cash or even jump into a fire truck and put out fires.
This game adapts the game style of the greatly known Grand Theft Auto series, but Crime Life has its few differences that makes it original, you just need to play to find out!
A big thanks to all of you guys who are supporting me with this game and all my other games. You are all welcome here.

Ok, just posted so I could be called first on this awesome looking game! This almost looks like GTA III itself! And you did this with GM? Astounding! Unfortunately, my compy cannot handle the specs, but soon I am getting a new one, so then I will post about the actual gameplay! But the graphics look awesome! Does this mean that CL2 is dead?

Cool, All your 3d games rock dude. I am thinking into 3d game play also. Nice job again, but you could also smooth the graphics a little bit.

Graphics were noticably better. I never experienced a framerate drop. Admittedly, there wasn't much going on, but still, nice job.
There should be a frame or two between having the gun at his side and aiming it ahead. The animation when the people got hit by a car was seemed strangely higher quality than the rest of them.

3 questions:

1. Did you use Movenow to make the animations, or did you just use transformations? You didn't use terrain or a heightmap, so you definitely could have used Movenow.

2. What's AC3D? Is it a 3D modeler? I've never heard of it before.

3. How much of this did you make yourself? I'm mostly wondering about the vehicle physics and the textures. There are a bunch of car physics scripts floating around the forums, and a lot of your textures look photorealistic.

All I have to say is WOW.
I liked the new death animation, improved physics, and the loading time was very short and the game itself was smoother than CL2. Great job!

Screenies look better than CLII.
It's ok, but you can tell it's a beta. Crashing into things and dying was way too easy, and the models look good, but not as smooth as I'd want to enjoy a GTA type game.
Graphics: 7/10 models look ok, people textures need some work.
Gameplay: 7/10 - Like the death animations better than CL2.
Sound/music: meh
Story: No story yet

1. No I'm not using Movenow. All the animations are with transformations. I don't know if I will use Movenow in next versions.

2. AC3D is a very easy modeling program. Here is the homepage

3. Everything has been made by me. Apart from some cars that I have found them a long time ago.

AC3D looks nice. Too bad its not free. I'll stick with Anim8or for now. Its free, and easier to import stuff into GM than with Blender.

Pros

- Graphics look very good and don't lack a sense of reality.
- Little to no textures looks out of place.
- Non-interpolated trees look surprising great.
- Vehicles look better in the way they animate.
- Aiming system feels much more fluid.
- Death animations are more natural.

Cons

- Animation is still lacking.
- Level design has little attention, there are a couple spots where the road is in the wrong place, or fences go inside buildings.
- Homes look out of place in terms of design.
- Environment is too flat, at least curbs would be nice and could show off some suspension physics.
- The vehicles sounds are horrible, even if temporary. Either put better ones in or disable them, they ruin the demo (IMO)
- The bikes don't tilt far enough.
- Vehicles need individual tweaking. Everything handles the same.
- Vehicles have no traction, and while it does feel better than CL2, it's not too great.

Misc

- I can't comment on framerate since my machine keeps both CL2 and 3 at a solid 30FPS.
- Watch out on how you design those hills, there are flat areas that still register collisions.

I found a glitch! I ran a car into a fence multiple times to blow it up on purpose. When it did explode, the noise of the car running wouldn't go away.

Shouldn't you be worried about finishing Crimelife 2 before making its sequel...?
Anyway, it ran way too slowly for me to give any real feedback. But, that's a problem with my computer, not the game.

considering what d3d can do...pretty decent.
considering what u3d can do...awful.

I suggest converting everything to u3d while you can. you're still pretty early in the stages and it's good you modeled mostly everything instead of just using d3d for drawing.
u3d can not only speed up your game by a lot, but it'll allow you more models in view, better graphics, higher res textures, better shadows, dynamic shadows, light bloom, depth of field, water distortion, 3D physics (which would greatly improve your "okay" vehicle physics), and a must in all 3D games...automatic z collisions.

if you're wanting to even compare with gta 3, which has bad graphics and dorky animations, you're about half way there. using u3d can get you there...for the most part.

It's pretty good, for what it is currently made for.
Although I think that there is much to much sliding when turning, but you get used to it after awhile. I think that this could go far - If you finish it that is.

Apart from the fact that, on the second try when the yoyogames player was minimised, your game fixed my mouse to the centre of the screen and I had to restart everything.. :) I found the game pretty good, some definite graphical improvements to be seen (especially the building faces, they look great). Still not sure about some of the animations which look a bit jerky, or some of those sounds, but a really great 3D game.

By the way, do you do this game on your own?

Great game, seriously Saki, this is a huge step up from some of your first 3D games I played awhile ago. In fact, this is a step up for all Gamemaker 3D games...for lack of a better term, its freakin' amazing!

The vehicle physics were great, the models were amazing for GM and the fact that I experienced no lag was just awesome. I can't wait for the full release of this game, and I have to say you have pushed the boundaries of what I thought was possible in gamemaker.

Ok, it was quiet a disappointment, really, in some ways it was nice, i liked the concept, for the town and some little things.
But this needs some critique for fixing some things. first of all, the main character looks. The looks are alright except one thing, look at the proportions between legs and body. the legs are too small, if zooming out he looks kind ridiculous, really, lol, resize legs, really, i dare you.
also, about his butt (Wow, i just said that haha), its pretty nice when you aim only the upper body rotates unless it goes over the rotation limit. try to make the butt to not rotate when you aim, only the upper parts. He looks like cuter apart (Witch it is) and then putted together with glue.
Also try out doing better job on the collisions. oh, and almost forgot, make a different walking animation, it looks awful, really.

This post wasn't meant to say that your game is crap, it was meant just to make you know what is wrong and what should be fixed. So good luck on this project, it looks nice indeed.

The graphics are dreadful, that's gm's fault.

However the GFX design and Level design is wonderful, have you though about implementing a lod system so you can increase the view even more?
From a distance buildings and people turn into sprites, And People dissapear BEFORE the city etc, and using EVEN lower polygonal car LODS?

Couple of graphical suggestions and a rough mockup.

1. Draw anything glowy or whatever after the darkness filter.
2. Try and actually bake some lighting/shading into the actual textures, it'll make the game pop alot more.

I tested this just now. I must say, this is amazing work. Doing this in GM sure is great, and I bet you are able to do more. Still, there is something about 3d and full screen games that makes them need more work if it should be keeping me busy for some time. (plots, action, difficulty). Then again, this is only a beta version, and I am aware of that.

To be honest, I was very impressed. That new main character (he has a name?) model looks very good, and its modeled very realistically (let's forget about the legs now, didn't pay much attention to them). Also the other people seemed more realistic (apart for some people's faces). The vehicle physics were impressive too, much better than anything I've sen done in gm (and it's in 3D!). The precise collisions were very fine too. Not as off as they were in Cl2, not at all. I wonder how you did them. :P

Then there were some other things I wasn't very thrilled about. First of all: culling. What? How can you not be using it while you're using every other possible speeding technique? You really ought to use it, I don't like the fact that I'm able to see the back of every model. This game would speed up so much! (if the idea is not letting the camera go through rocks and such, it's faster to prevent it by camera collisions)

Other issues were for example the animation (it's not as bad as in Cl2 though, the running especially), the very manly, mean, serious looking character's walking/running seems just goofy. But it's apparently made by a self-made script (instead of e.g. Movenow, another reason for appreciation), so it might not be very easy to edit it.

I like the camera view, it's really good. You could get really stylish screenshots from that floor persepective. But I think you ought to do something to the way the camera acts while riding a vehicle. Like making it slowly translate towards the new targets (car's direction if in move, otherwise mouse), and/or allowing the mouse to move the vehicle also in move.

Texture interpolation is something I think you'd need to use more (things look much much better). I know it causes depth problems to partially transparent textures, but low resolution textures like the ones on palms don't look very pretty. I think you should prevent this even by separating the leafy parts of those models (in order to draw the other parts interpolated).

There were also some offsets that have been brought up already, but I don't want to sound too negative about this. This game has a huge potential, please do anything to prevent this from facing the destiny that Cl2 needed to face. ;)

Keep it up!

True GMax is much better, infact I feel that its the best free software, its easy to use and is set up for beginners, unlike Blender which causes hell for newbies.
