PaperBlast

PaperBlast is a shoot-em-up of sorts that is controlled only with the mouse. Your ship automatically rotates and shoots. There is a number of enemies and the trick is to avoid their bullets and get a high score.

Controls:
Mouse - move ship
Left click - reverse rotating direction
Right click - use bomb
Esc - quit

:lol: Play/download: HERE

Music by Peptotrippin,
online highscores by Tobs (THANKS!).

In the WIP topic there were a number of good ideas I did not implement, mostly because I want to use my time for other games. I'm happy with how it turned out though.

Hope you like it. : )

yay it was fun.
I like the way you play, its not like any other.
I was number 1 on highscore:D

Well polished and the unique "paper" theme.
9/10.

Edit:
The cursor can sometimes be a little hard to find, but could be much worse.
The music fits well.

I played this game on your site, ages back.
And i still love it! The difficulty isn't hard until the end. :)

Review:

Graphics = 10/10
GamePlay = 9/10
Story = 0/10
Sound = ???
Overall = 9/10

Great game, i prefer Mubbly Tower, because Mubbly Tower is your BEST game yet! :lol:

Thanks for the comments!

I have to point something out though:

Sound = ???

The sound effects are there and really cool imo. The sound when you kill an enemy is recorded by me, actually ripping apart paper. :lol:

Ok I like what the bomb does now, even if it lags the game massively.

Now Im no1. Im surprised the old players haven't come back to reclaim their highscore.

A nice fun game. My only con is that sometimes it is hard to see where bullets are because there is paper in the way.

Originally, I was going to disagree with some people's comments about how you're getting a high rating on yoyogames just because you're 2dcube - however the statistics on your game say otherwise.
Rated 4.2 by 94 members. Played 87 times.

I can guess from this that some people are rating your game a 6 without even playing it, just because you're you.

However, apart from this - I would rate your game a 7.5 or an 8 out of 10. It's pretty simple, which isn't really a bad thing, and the gameplay is relatively unique. My only main complaint is that it gets rather boring (it's not something I'd play more than once or twice), and it could stand to be a bit more polished graphics-wise. The paper texture is a bit hard on the eyes when it's stretched oddly, and the ship sprite could go with some smoothing. Also, you should probably have the shadows drawn to a surface which is then drawn underneath all of the paper, since right now, the shadows are completely out of proportion.

At some point, not long after uploading, it had many ratings but only 3 plays, even though on the highscore list there were many more different names. I'm pretty sure something is wrong with YoYoGames here.

Cool game.

A nice and unique minigame. It's fun to play a few times, but didn't really hold my interest. Definitely worth a play or two, though.

But you know how I feel about default message boxes, especially ones that have the default look. Nothing serious, but it's the only thing I can think of that I would like to see changed.

It's pretty solid for what it is, but simple nonetheless.

What a lovely little SHMUP! For the most part, the gameplay was quite fun and intuitive, and the music was quite good. There are just two things I would improve:

- The bomb causes some serious slowdown issues, at least for my computer. You could probably cut down on some of the effects.

- The slow rotation of the shots were a neat idea, but I think it could be improved by allowing the player to adjust the rotation speed. If the player 'whips' the mouse around the ship very quickly, the rotation 'feels' like it should also go very quickly. You could probably do this by making the rate of rotation of the ship be determined by the rate of change of the angle that the mouse cursor is moving relative to the ship. You could use the GM trig functions to find the angle that the mouse cursor makes with the ship. To prevent the game from appearing mouse-aimed, you could implement a gradual slowdown from when the cursor is moving to when it is standing still.

Nice game, though!

I thought this game was sort of... Slow. It's not bad, far from it, but it started out fairly boring. Once you get farther though it starts getting really cool.

I also think you should change the background... it just doesn't fit.

With a little practice, I could make the top 20! :)

Anyways, great game!

Like others have said, it's very clean and polished; this makes a game go so much further.

Very unique gameplay concept; I did find it a little fast pace (for my taste) at times, but everything else was flawless.

Graphics were pretty nice; I would have liked to have seen a grid paper (or loose-leaf) background instead of the dirt/rocks.

The online high score table was a great addition; I loved how it automaticaly loaded in the game afterwards!

--Great job!--

It's pretty solid for what it is, but simple nonetheless.

I started on this game around when I started on Karoshi 1 and just finished it. So yeah, I was too lazy to make my own message boxes, sorry. I know how they are annoying, kinda ironic.

What a lovely little SHMUP! For the most part, the gameplay was quite fun and intuitive, and the music was quite good. There are just two things I would improve:

Bomb: I like the lag personally. Do you really dislike it or is it because of the general consensus that "lag is bad"?

Your idea to manipulate the rotatition is pretty interesting. I don't think I'll update the game with it but it's a neat idea. Though you'd have to be careful to not make the game very tiring for you arm, heh.

I thought this game was sort of... Slow. It's not bad, far from it, but it started out fairly boring. Once you get farther though it starts getting really cool.

I also think you should change the background... it just doesn't fit.

I like the wood, though it is a bit low res. The game does become most fun when you reach >20.000, yeah.
