:( Information:

This is a Monkey Island Fan Game. It's a beta of the engine, so don't expect a full game. The story is not the final version either. We created a little puzzle, involving some items and characters, but that's only to show the engine. Nothing is final yet. We know the story is not very elaborate ,but we'll change that in the final version.

:snitch: Engine:

The game is powered by AGEGaM (Adventure Game Engine for Game Maker) created by us (Nachician and ChapiX2). The engine was created from scratch and took us 1 year to create but with several delays; So, in real time it took us some months to develop.
We tried to resemble the SCUMM engine created by LucasArts, and we think it's going pretty well. It's probably the only engine made in GM that has so many Point n' Click features. We are still working on the engine to improve it further than it is now adding more Point n' Click features, improving the old ones and the adition of a lot of details that make the game feel more like the original Monkey Island 1 and 2. Actually, this beta doesn't have the complete engine.
We might upload an updated version with the complete engine soon.
Here's a short list with the best features AGEGaM has:
  • Smooth, complete motion planning engine.
  • Text engine with auto wrapping, conversation choices and custom font (The same as Monkey Island 1 & 2).
  • Custom Save & Load Engine and Menu.
  • Complete inventory with item sprite.

Just in case you couldn't complete the beta:
^_^ Walkthrough (Highlight to read):

1) Talk to Elaine. Choose any of the first choices. Now you have the chest.
2) Look at the barrel, and get the 3 coins.
3) Now go to Stan's. Talk to him and ask him what you can buy with 3 coins. He'll give you a hammer and a bottle.
4) Use the hammer with the bottle. Now you have the lime that was inside. The hammer breaks and you get the hammer head.
5) Use the hammerhead with the chest, so you can get the key to the door in the first room.
6) Lime the key twice (because it doesn't work properly with the door if you don't).
7) Use the key with the door. Go inside.
8) Talk to the man. Ask him to give you paper for the governor. He'll gave you a paper.
9) Leave. Give the paper to Elaine.
Hooray, the beta is completed.

This game looks great. And feels just like the old DOS one. Ah, the good old days...
Good job.. I played this game a bit, and I couldn't find any bugs at all.
You should definitely keep working on it. :P

We've found 1 little glitch in the beta, currently fixed. And we are working to improve the engine further;
There are new scripts for the talking engine that reasembles more to the SCUMM engine and makes the game feel more like a Monkey Island.
We might upload an updated version soon...

By the way: If you are really interested in this game: we would really apreciate someone who can draw backgrounds and/or sprites for us.
We can do sprites ourselves, but requires a lot of time (We don't have experience drawing). Our main problem are the backgrounds, because we don't want to use low quality and ugly backgrounds that may not fit well with the game; they must have that 'old' and 'pirate-ish' style. And we can't acomplish that by ourselves.

If you want to apply, send us an e-mail to monkey5project (monkey5project@gmail.com) , or a private message to Nachician or ChapiX2.
Then, we'll contact you.

Thanks in advance.

This looks great! I'm a Monkey Island fan, and this is awesome -_-

got the game its really good enjoyed it. but the house with the helper needs more background detail like you said and same for the pirate lair but the game is really good few spelling mistakes but i know its only a bta demo cant wait to see a longer version keep me posted its really good also you could widen the main area so you can go in the prison and see largo or someone from the past. lastly no noises when you open doors etc dunno if its hard to do im rubbish at this sort of thing overall really good game

few ideas you could mix mi 1 and 2 islands so you can go to monkey island and then scabb ilsand and booty or phat etc using the same idea of a ship. you could charter a ship again maybe kate can return but use the pirate ship from the first game so you can explore and kate with be in the captains room etc also for the interior of the house could you not use another house from the game and blank out bits to make it look different etc.

also you could have a changing room where you could be told to neaten up have a shave etc and come out like the guybrush in the firstone or you could be able to change when you want and could change into that dress for comedy factor

one problem is if you look at the barrel before talking to the elain you cant get anything which means people may not try it again.

story ideas you have to free largo as he promises to take you some where in the ship when you get there he escapes dunno just throwing few thing out.

lastly my beta ends after the "meanwhile" cutscene is this the longest demo available?

cheers for a great idea and game

regards

Harry

p.s keep me posted

Great game, awesome... :) As I most interested making first person adventures in fact remaking some classics from Amiga and Dos. I hope this engine will prove itself useful as I haven't seen anything like that here, yet. Please keep us updated.

PS: hope there will be some timer events if possible like something triggered at certain spot or after some time.

- After the meanwhile there is a little closing with guybrush talking.

- This is the only beta available right now, but we are going to release a new one soon, with new things, new puzzles, funnier, optimized, and details that make our game even more identical to SCUMM Engine. It's going to be great.
And then we'll start with the complete game. Full with a complete story, a real Monkey Island Fan Game..

::lmao::

Downloaded it and enjoyed it very much. I wish I had some artistic skill, I'd certainly lend it to you.

I will not litter you with tons of plot ideas, mainly because I have too many. I feel a fan of the series, especially one behind an awesome project such as this, will have plenty of good ideas on their own.

That being said, my only plot idea I will state, is since we're using the look of rh first two Monkey islands, I'd have this be like Monkey Island 2 and a half or Monkey Island X or something like that. Pre-date CMI and EMI.. This will give you more avenues to take the story... Just a thought.

I love it, and look forward to a completed version. Bravo.

No, there is clearly not, considering you are bumping a dead topic.

Monkey Island is impossible to replicate, no-one has yet to convey the humour of Gilbert and Schafer. Monkey Island 3 managed to be the funniest in the series, partially because many of the original team was on it.

If you look at attempts to make new monkey islands, check out Monkey Island 4, recognized by fans as the worst monkey island game ever.

A group of 2 programmers could never make a game as funny as Monkey Island 1-3, especially not as funny as 3.

I'm sure they could make a great adventure game though.

Don't bump dead topics.
