Yeah, did the same thing, except I voted retro, and then a good idea for co-op just came to me, and now I wish I could change my vote!I voted unreality/surrealism, but now I wished I voted co-operation.
Oh well, all themes sound cool to me.
Oh well.
The thing about retro is that we'd get a lot of good retro games, but also a lot of games made by people who don't really understand the style. Too many people equate retro with bad graphics.

While those were cool games, they are also 'epics' and not quick little games that are simple and fun to just pick up and play. While Time would be a great theme, I didn't vote for it because I didn't see many possibilities in terms of small simple games. Don't get me wrong, they are there, but it just seems too constricting.Time Manipulation doesn't have to be all that complex, think Chrono Trigger or Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.....
I debated between Coop and surrealism for that exact reason. I wish I could have voted for both, but I voted for Coop just because I already have an idea for it.I voted for Unreality/surrealism purely because I felt it would create a wide variety of games.

I voted Anti-Depressant.
Co-operation involves using difficult AI most of the time which narrows the chances of winning to the great programmers.
Retro is a very cliche idea.
Time is also a very cliche concept.

I agree with the cliche stuff. However, I don't like anti-depressant. (for the mere sake of the fact that I am not in any way depressed) Thus, I vote Opposites!

If it involves cooperation between two parties, human or otherwise, yes.Co-op...would RTS count as co-op O.o?
ps, i null my vote by accident T.T

I don't really have an idea for "anti-depressant" games and couldn't really think of what is expected from a game within this theme. I mean, it is something different from "non-violent". But the theme sounds interesting.
I really hope Retro will not win this popular vote, because it is not a theme: it is a style. And I think that is not good: I think the game designer should pick a style that fits him, not the contest. The contest restriction should be theme based, like is done with the winter and ancient civilizations contests, to let the player think about game design and not be restricted about how it is executed. And the retro restriction is about execution. I even think it shouldn't have been in the list, but that is just my opinion.
If I had to make a list of preference, I would order them as follows.
1. Opposites (many possibilities but not too "open" for any kind of game)
2. Time (idem, but a bit more cliché)
3. Anti-depressant (sounds interesting but I don't know what to expect of it)
4. Co-op (may be seen as a programming contest, which it isn't. It is in fact a game design/creation contest
5. Surrealism (I think this is too open and besides, this looks like it's going to be a graphics contest, which is also isn't)
6. Retro (idem)

And how are those games inherently anti-depressant?I voted for anti depressant...
I much prefer exploration games and games like Harvest moon and Animal Forest, Sim city etc. etc.
I think the general idea behind anti-depressant is "sicken you with how undepressedly happy it is".

I had hoped for a space themed competition before but now I think Anti-Depressant is a great idea. I'd love to see more cartoony games on YoYo Games as most of the games so far are, well, not dull but not exactly 'Teletubbies' either. I'm not suggesting that we make Teletubbies games but bright happy games are cool, and personally I'd love to use some good old simple 3D.
Edit:
Retro is a bad idea. I agree completely with what Erik Leppen said about it. This defines style, not theme.
For instance look at Zelda. Wind Waker and Twilight Princess are a completely different style, yet the same theme and the same franchise!
Most of the games on YYG are retro anyway.

sometimes you don't have to have difficult AI to make
good game of this type.
our imagination. It doesn't have to be something complicated,
hey,it even doesn't have to have enemies, you can always make
a game with co-operation type of gameplay, even in mazes,
collecting coin-types of games, 2d runners and other stuff.

Gah quit voting unreality >_<;;; There have been so many surreal games lately it's lost its uniqueness.
Oh and I get why you'd vote it cactus, so no hard feeling there.
But everyone else... *grumble grr*
I voted for it because I think it would create the broadest range of games; some of the other suggestions limit you to certain genres which I find irritating.

Actually it's quite limited, I think. It's so stylized it's limited to "super stylized weird".Gah quit voting unreality >_<;;; There have been so many surreal games lately it's lost its uniqueness.

That and cactus will win if it's surreal

The point is that there are many ways of displaying cooperation in a game besides being part of a squad of AI soldiers. I'll leave it up to you to think about the possibilities but to say that Co-op will only favor the great AI programmers, is like saying that Ancient Civilization competition will only favor great programmers (because RTS is the first thing that comes to mind).
Co-op has the potential to be a lot of fun, and will show us some things that we usually don’t see in GM games. Which is why I voted Co-op.
