GM Version: GM 7
File Size: 1.04 MB (RAR) demo, 1.01 MB mini demo
Screen Resolution: Changes
Changes Screen Resolution: Not in-game,but you can set fullscreen with F4,if it helps XD

LATEST UPDATE 13/04/08 : Warmongers Demo

This is a 2D RTS game with basic functions - moving, attacking, chasing. It runs with ~12 fps because drawing the fog of war takes a lot of time. I preferred a good (but slow) one. A faster GMLed fog of war wouldn't be good like this one.
The goal is to destroy the enemy's units. The enemy creates units and sends them to destroy your units. You can create units too and send them to destroy the enemy's ones...
There are 13 unit types.
Each has one sprite because I couldn't find a spriter who can make sprites for 8 directions. The game will look much better with more sprites. If you are a spriter, please consider helping me. I can do the programming, but I do need spriters.

You can change settings in data.txt (it's in "files" folder).
If you discover any errors of bus while running the game, or if you have suggestions, please post them here.

There are alot of bugs, and the controls are very confusing. Maybe post this when it is more complete?

Fun fun!! Quite incomplete, could use better graphics, and yeah, bugs.
But non-the-less, FINALLY!! A FREE RTS!!
Only if you had a spriter, maybe you should post a request, this game has plenty potential!
Fun and worth the download!

The bugs are there because GM didn't work like I expected...for example, units don't stop at points when following a path. That's why the sight circle doesn't follow them.

I hoped this mini demo could convince spriters to help me, because making graphics is the only thing I can't do...I'll try to fix the bugs, but it will never look good enough without unit sprites in 8 directions. I only managed to get 1 sprite per unit...

pretty bugged, and I didn't really understand the concept of the game...
maybe just should get some help to the sprites, but some wont JUST do it.. and the codes.. just ask and you will get help, thats what I did making mine
controls == confusing!

About the controls: I don't think they can be less confusing! I used exactly the controls used in the Warcraft and Age of Empires games! It probably looks confusing because you are not used to them...play RTS games and you will get used.

About the code...I don't think I need help. My programming and GML skills are good enough for making a simple RTS game...The bugs are there just because I plan and write all the code in a notebook first, and then I type everything. When I was writing the code and planning this mini demo, I thought an object following a path will stop at each one of the points. Since it doesn't happen there is a problem with the fog of war and with unit movement.

I can easily fix it; I just need some time. :chikin

Enter the link, the type the password. In the next page, wait until the remaining time reaches 0 and then click "free download". A downloading window should open. :)
Maybe an ad window will open too...just close it.

There is an update in the first post : I made a demo version and fixed the bugs. This time the game is playable. Please post any errors, bugs (if you find any) and suggestions. And if you try the game, please post you opinion...

Whenever I try to load it, it says trying to use non-existing surface. I use windows xp.

Surfaces are deleted when the game is saved. I'm aware of that. Simply don't use loading and saving. In the full version, if I ever make it, I'll save the surfaces externally.

dude this runs waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy toooooooooooooooooooooooooo slow, 12 fps is 2 slow. plus the circle of view drawn around each unit has a square around it, for get this type of fog, find a faster way, game speed is more important than fog of war in an rts.

I can't see any squares around the view circles. There are no squares in the screenshot too...
And the fps is not really a problem. If I used a normal programming language instead of using GML the game would run a lot faster, so I'm not worried about it. Besides that, it doesn't look to slow. It's still playable. And I can't find any other way to draw normal fog of war without weird effects. I can't use DLLs because I don't know any programming languages. The 34 DLLs in the "files" folder are not really DLLs; It's pure GML.
The low fps doesn't look like a big problem, does it?

In the next version there will be no fog of war (unless everything else won't be too slow).

Thanks (although I...is it really good? Even to me it looks like a poor RTS mini-mini-demo...).

A full version with buildings, resource gathering, more types of tiles, more unit types and much better (this time intelligent LOL) enemy AI is coming soon...(actually it might take more than 2 months, but soon school ends forever, so I'll have more time for the game before university first year begins and "coming soon" can also be less than a month. It's hard to tell since this RTS game is my first serious project. All others didn't take more than very few months to complete, while this RTS project is already taking more than a year (school's fault!), in which I filled notebooks with more than 1200 written pages (and I'm not done yet LOL) and I'm still working on a basic full version (kind of an engine) without many original things I'm planning to add when the basic engine is done).

OK. I'll upload the demo unRARed ;)

Edit: There are many files and I can't upload a folder...since nobody is going to download 20 files, you just need to use winrar. Sorry.
Or...maybe...will a ZIP version help? Or uploading it to YoYoGames (allowing instant play)?
