This is a game I was working on, then stopped working on, then just recently started working on again. It's called Block, which is also the name of the main character.

the idea of the game is you go through levels, collecting all the stars to unlock the next level. There are also enemies (that you can shoot) and spikes.
Some levels have a keyhole-type thing at the start, with them, you have to find the key (usually at the end of the level), and then come back to it. You'll be able to unlock it, and it'll make something appear.
When you die, you go back to the start of the level (you don't need to kill enemies / collect stars again).
There are a couple of tutorial levels at the start of the game.
The graphics I did myself, some sfx I made myself, and the rest of the sounds came form a resource pack.

Controls:
Keyboard:
Left Arrow: Move left
Right arrow: Move right
Down arrow: Crouch
Up Arrow: Jump
Space: Shoot
Ctrl: Action button
Esc: Quit
F1: Show Game Info (Controls are here as well)

Game Controller:
Left: Move left
Right: Move right
Button 3: Jump
Button 2: Shoot
Button 4: Crouch
Button 1: Action button

Known bugs:
Sometimes you get killed twice when you land on spikes [Solved!]
Sometimes when you die, you re-appear where you died, instead of the start of the level, or you don't re-appear at all.
Movement can be a bit jerky sometimes.
Sometimes if you crouch, you get stuck in the ground
Sometimes if you hit an enemy while in the air, you still lose a life and go back to the start, but there are no particle effects.
If you die and you have all stars, the exit sometimes disappears

If you can't be bothered doing all the levels to unlock them, make a file in the game folder called save_a.block and copy the following text into it: :D

Then if you go to load game, and load the first slot (it'll be "abc"), then you'll have all the levels I've made unlocked.

Note: I'm not going to put a lot of effort into making this game flawless, and ironing out all the bugs. At the moment, I just want to finish it, and then i'm going to start doing some 3D work, which I'm going to focus on.


Other note: It works fine in Instant Play, except if you're jumping to the left, you're unable to shoot for some reason.

This should have gotten more replies; it's not bad. I like the whole idea and the cut scenes are pretty humorous. Just a few things though:

-Getting killed by running into an enemy doesn't have much consequence.
-Music only plays through one speaker.
-The exit appearing in the middle of the level after all the stars are collected is cool, but the view scrolling should just be a little quicker.
-Should just be a little more variety of enemies within a world.

Other than those things, the game is fairly entertaining.

I might make a lives / health system, though I'm not sure if I'd need the health, maybe just lives

Didn't really notice that I must have changed the panning when I was working on it at some stage, I'll change it.

-The exit appearing in the middle of the level after all the stars are collected is cool, but the view scrolling should just be a little quicker.
I'll make it go a bit faster

-Should just be a little more variety of enemies within a world.
Maybe I could have flying enemies, or underwater enemies in the worlds with water.

This game needs more attention.
Put some origional element into it, though.
There are too many platformers where you're a square.

Lol about the square.. I downloaded the TH7 platform engine to help get the moving platforms working, and the example character in that looks just like Block. Maybe it's just because people are lazy with graphics? :o
I might try and make some enemies more original

You can change them all to 1s, but it won't really do anything, as I haven't finished all the levels yet. It'll also probably muck up the game a bit.

And like I said, I'll encrypt it in the finished version so that you won't be able to do it at all.

0.0.2.0 is out! In this version:

More levels
More enemies
Slippery Platforms
Vertical Moving Platforms
Now on YoYo Games

This will be one of the last releases, if not the last before the final one. I only need to do the 3 remaining levels, the boss and the minigames.

Quite amusing! I love the teleporter. One major thing that I did not like is that on the grass levels, the bottom grass looks like it's fallowing you due to the speed of motion and the distance between the pattern on the grass. Fix that and it will look great!
