use regular gamemaker sprite editor, thats the best one, you can resize images to a specfic size, or just, whatever, its better than you think it is, just try it out ^_^

Photoshop CS2. Very nice. Takes about ten seconds to create alpha masks too.

Promotion>GraphicsGale>MSpaint

ProMotion is both hardest to learn (Have to read a manual) and most efficient to use once learned. It's probably gonna take you a good solid month or so to even get a firm handle on the damn program. It's got RGB and HSL and CMsomethingodd and a couple other three letter acronyms that I don't understand myself. Something to do with colour.

GraphicsGale is much simpler to learn (MSpaint with more tools and way more shortcuts) and a hell of a lot faster than MSpaint if you've put at least a week into learning how to use the thing.

MSpaint is simple as anything, but lacks animation and a bajillion other things.

So MSpaint if you're not serious or just starting, GraphicsGale if you're in it as a hobby or actually plan to do a bunch of art, and ProMotion if you're in it as a pro.

(I personally use GraphicsGale, registered version)

I use MS paint. But dont let people tell you one program is better or worse, try out a couple and just stick to what you like best.

It depends on the graphics. Pixeling? I use MSpaint, and sometimes Graphics Gale. Special effects and such? Photoshop 7. And I agree with r1k. No such thing as a "best" program for spriting exist. It all depends on the spriter.

Well said...
Graphics Gale is my program of choice for pixeling, Paint Shop Pro & Photoshop for other stuff.

GIMP for everything. It's very flexible. I doesn't really fit for pixling but well... I don't have the patience to do pixling anyways so it's no loss for me.

EDIT: I don't have any use for pixling art either.

Wow. Deja Vu. I think I've seen this topic twenty-thousand times before... :)

I use GM Image Editor for everything I do. I don't have enough patience to learn how to use any other programs, and MS Paint is not something I personally think is very good...

I use two very nice FREEWARE graphics editors. GIMP and PAINT.NET 3

paint is more intuitive, but gimp is way more powerful once you know how to use it.

together those programs *almost* have the power of photoshop - very very good for the price of 0.
