Ok here is the best way to protect your games until gm 7.1 or some "patch". It will protect your games from everyone but the few users who know how to decompile gm games (not much protection against them)

If you use gm7 convert the game to gm6 using LGM. Compile to exe using GM6 and convert to vista using the converter.

This works and will protect your games until the security exploit is fixed.

Those exe's don't work in currently created automated tools.

Also Here is a tool that will compress your games!

It works very well and I highly suggest you use it if you are going to release a game:
http://www.scottlu.c...ntent/CExe.html

Btw the original idea was the compressor to stop stupid users of an automated tool but some people thought they were very clever for realising this and posted for all to see ::lmao:: I knew what it was doing and the file is in use while it is being run and deleted at end it could have just looked like a tmp file created by the exe itself. It would stop an automated tool which was its purpose. So ignore the first page and a half of replys they were about the exe compressor that in my opinion was a good idea and DID put a layer of protection on them but whatever.

The gm6 vista way is probably the best protection you will get right now.

Hmmm will this prevent the '::lmao:: this isn't a game!' error? I tried some other program before and that's what it did to my games..

Yes it does, I have tested on gm6 and gm7 games ::lmao::

Oops you're screwed. It's a virus.

This is not a virus, it has been on the internet for years and actually works.

I've voiced to you how happy I am about this. Very nice find, Guru. I'ma add something like this to ENIGMA, methinks.

BTW, syntax:

cexe "path/to/old/exe" "path/to/new/exe"

If you don't want icons to be copied, use this:
cexe -n "path/to/old/exe" "path/to/new/exe"

BTW.. under Windows Vista, cexe needs Elevated Permissions, i.e. you'll get a UAC Dialog.

BTW, I tested it under vista.. works ::lmao::

AVG Says nothing about it.. besides, its TGMG for god's sake, trust the guy dammit!

For GM7, it reduced 1 MB of my EXE. That's pretty good. The question is, how much does it reduce for GM6, since its already compressed.

edit: just tested it on GM6 Executables.. it compresses them just a bit, which is good, considering the'yre already zlib compressed. I also noticed, the compression makes the program require to run as administrator in vista. Meaning.. your compressed game itself will now require UAC if it didn't.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

No, doesn't think GM games are viruses.. only thing I find suspicious is that every time I click on the download link it generates a random name for the thing it puts in the temp folder. Well whatever; IMO avast is great.. guess every scanner has its false alarms then.

CExe will not protect your game at all.

[somewhat vague description of why CExe why this won't protect your game removed voluntarily]

Aragon notified me about this topic, if it really protects games, good job! ^^

This will be a good TEMPORARY solution, I've heard of some 'flaws' in this, so we still have to wait for an actual prevention of YYG themself.

Although, why bother, people can't seem to read anyway.

Nah, I don't think it's a virus. Why? Well it actually works for one. And.. no one else thinks its a virus.. and he's not trying to connect to the internet.. and I don't see any ads popping up ;). Sorry for the false alarm, not my fault though hehehe.

@NakedPaulToast - I know that but the idea of this is a temp solution to all those idiots with a automised tool. Most of them wouldn't think of that. But I am working on finding a better way as we speak. I don't think you should have shared that information as most user will not know this and they shouldn't find out. Its obvious but lets not point it out.

Also if you make your game in gm6 and convert to vista it is more secure!

Does the gm6-gm7 exe converter give the same security as if I compiled it with gm7? ... whatever ;) Yeah I noticed the .tmp file too. Oh well, It's still good for compression uses. I just need a way to block gm's debugger ;)

Gm6 vista conversion is un reversable at time of writing as the creator of a certian tool forgot about it ;)

Telling people that there games are protected, when they are not, is negligent. It is not a solution, temporay or otherwise. Don't be telling them, it is.

Again you will probably get warned if you mention anything other than this tool in this topic!

Your tone is annoying. Please don't act like the moderators of this board are your personal army. They choose who will/won't be warned, not you.
And what exactly are we protecting our GM games from, exactly? I don't think there are many GM games out there worth stealing. The very few that are worth stealing are made by great programmers, who I'm sure already have their own methods of protection.

Still a nice thought though, I guess. Even if it is bypassed with almost no effort, as NPT has already pointed out.

Quit acting like you know everything. Perhaps there's something TGMG isn't ready to talk about, hm?

There is no other protection from this. Take this, or leave it.

I'm quite surprised he found one that works with GM. No one else has, to my knowledge. And I've been watching the freakouts.

Hahah, NPT just said that it was bypassed without any effort, and explained why. TGMG admitted he was right. What the hell is there to know?
Maybe you should learn to read before trying to type.
