Did one of those win one of my competitions?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Wario Wants His Stuff Back came in second place on your fangame competition. I'm pretty sure number one was a Halo fangame.

I just dropped by today. I still remember most of you from the 2001-2003 EZboard days. A few days ago I found the "GM Song" that forum user Sparlatacus had recorded around 2002. Nothing special, but it reminded me of you guys!

I can't believe it's been over 7 years since I joined the GM Community, albeit a different forum now that I barely visit anymore!

I remember starting gamemaker in 2001. It was the beginning of a long journey. I remember the old forums and the switch to Invision. Probably the best thing I ever did with Game Maker is start a project called Game Maker Converter. Myself and a guy named Ben worked on the that program for days. I than remember GMGuru taking the program and continuing work with it. At least I think his name was GMGuru. I think my favorite version of GM was 5.3a.

Some of you probably remember my Dorf's Quest games, along with Goomba's Revenge, Dorf's Christmas, Wario Wants His Stuff Back, both Mnomen fangames, Ice Martians fangame, etc.

I have most of those games on my game maker cd collection, version 4 & 5 cd backup. Good times!

I've been on and off of GM for a while. I started around 2002-2003 with GML being my first programming language, though I had done mod scripting for other games before taking up GML. I stopped when I started to learn C. I'm going to be returning to Game Maker now, as I've found myself with no internet connection at my new home in Canberra. I'm starting my first year at the ANU for a degree in Software Engineering. I've also recontinued my work on Sketchy, if anyone remembers the WIP.

By-the-by, is anyone else in the community attending the ANU in Canberra? It would be nice to have someone to discuss game programming with, not necessarily exclusively to Game Maker.

I joined in mid-2002, but none of my projects ever took off... :P

at first, I didn't know how to post screenshots, and no one would tell me.
next, I didn't even know how to upload games I was making.

finally, when I did know those two things, I realized that, despite great gameplay, none of my games had any graphics or sounds. :(

I can't make graphics, and where the heck are you suppose to get sounds? -_-

No support whatsoever from this community. :(

I moved on to C++, but I soon realized I wasn't getting anywhere since I was reading through a C++ book, and I just never made anything, never got a true IDE until 2005, etc.

Gamemaker has been a complete and utter failure. :(
:P

On the bright side, years of examining psychology and games means I'm as good a game designer as any commercial-quality one.

I got gm.4x sometime(dont remember when), deleted it about 3 days later, I was a noob and couldn't figure out how to use it.
Then i bumped into it again in 2004 and got a 5.x something, and then 6.x but never really posted on the forum, and ... ect... but... I was no doubt a gm noob until last year >.<
