Info:
Hex Ball is a platformer in which you play as a ball that explores many different levels of many different worlds, while collecting GloBalls which you can use to light up Shadow Rods. With the Shadow Rod lit for that room, you can use special abilities that let you do strange things. The uniquness of the game comes in it's control system, which is completey mouse controlled. :medieval:

New features in v3:
Hey everyone, It's been awhile...a long while...ok a REALLY long while, but I have finished off v3 of Hex Ball. It features the much-requested full screen, a new world to explore, a new ability, several ability upgrades, a different save system(doesn't save between rooms anymore, it got to clunky when it had to save alot), and some pretty great music by Noir. Those are the main high points so just download it and play it for yourself.
-Water
-Lava
-New ability (Heat)
-Air ability upgrade #2 (Float)
-Magnet ability upgrade #3 (Magnet Waves)
-Heat ability upgrade #1 (Spike Melt)
-New world (World 3)
-Sounds (Only 2....Globall, magnet track)
-Music ("Hollowness" by Noir)
-Changed the save system
-Fixed a few minor object placing issues
-Other stuff that I can't remember because I've been working on this version since January...

Downloading now, will edit when done.

EDIT: That was WAY too hard, and how do you use the ability's?

I got the first shadow rod thing, it was just to hard.

Ya I might have to tone it down a notch eh?
I just didn't want it to be like some cheap 5 minute demo, I wanted it to be a challenge, if you get used to the controlls it actually doesn't take that long to beat it. I will definately have easier levels in the full game but for now I just wanted to make it challenging.

[EDIT]
Oh and once you get the Hex's (spinning wheel-looking things) then it tells you how, just hold the left mouse button.

Im trying to get to the first hex, but the part before it is impossible (for me) make the platforms bigger.

EDIT: YES! I got the first hex, and the...thing, the thing that lets you use the "launchers"
how do you use those any way?

Wow. What a lamo.

I like the game. You might want to check your rooms' speeds'. The first room runs like its 60 FPS and the rest at 20 FPS.

I like the game. Maybe, with the different worlds part, make the game crazy colorful. The game is really boring looking right now. And there's no sounds. That would make this game great: music and graphics. I'm pretty sure you've got the game play down real good.

And for you people who think this game is hard: get off those drugs.

@Blaze:
That part is definately one of the hardest parts but still I don't think it should take more than a couple of tries to get it.

@Skarik:
Can you please not insult people?
As for the room speeds they are all the same(60) but I think some rooms might lag a little for some reason. I usually don't put sound or music into my games untill the latter stages of developement. Thanks for the reply! :medieval:

That "thing" is supposed to be a chip of some sort....anyway, as of yet the only launchers in the game are in the first level, and you just hold the left mouse button while rolling over them and they shoot you up. They look liike slanted blocks but they are blue.

Great work!
Fabulous game, im convinced that my lamo to best friend (he dont really play different games and he hate Game Maker, h also know i call him lamo sometimes) would probably love it...
Im curious how you made the steering... Actually, im curious about the whole game...
It is fabulous, fun steering and obtaining a new ability was a really fun little suprise.
I like the "boring" (as someone said) graphics, sincew theyre simple and actually makes you focus more on the game (is it only me thinking like that???)
Well, great work! Cant wait for downloading the complete verision...
How much do thee have left on the game you think?

Cant wait, im all excited...

@Dojan:
Thanks, I'm glad you like it. I kinda like the graphics how they are too, and if you must know, I made the ball go a certan speed based on how far the mouse was away. (eg:hspeed=mouse_x-obj_ball.x)

sound 0/10
graphics 4/10
originality 8/10
total 18/40

Bugs:
NONE.

Positive:
Like the Weel effect and movement

Negative:
not so big variety of things

Comments:
None.

Questions:
How do you make your weel move so smoothly down and up a slope?

Wow....harsh rating, that's like.....4.2/10 or something......
Anyway I made the slopes so that when you are going right it checks if there is nothing below you to the right(you are on a slope) then instead of just moving you right it moves you right and down.

[EDIT]
Oh and just to give away some stuff for the next demo this is what I have made so far:
-5 different starting screens, it takes you to a random one each time you start the game.
-2 new abilities.
-Different symbols for the each Hex.

And I'm working on more stuff too.

nice game! :D

i like the mouse movement, its original!

But i think it would be easier if you removed the cursor and made it stay inside the window or follow the ball or anything... because i found it kinda annoying moving the mouse outside the window when trying to jump all the time...

except from that this game i great ;)

Nice game, pretty hard, but still very nice.
Though i don't get what's the use of those blue stripes in some blocks...

Good job, nice ball animation, could have used a better background.....

You use the blue stipes when you get the first ability, it should be in the first level. You stick to them.
Anyway thanks for the post and ya, I didn't really even have a background....

ok srry i didnt edit with my review

well, I just finished doing everything there is to do on the demo i have.

WOW!
That was addictive.

Graphics: 9.5/10
¤ They fit in perfectly together. All I can say is the message box could use a remake.

Gameplay: 9.2/10
¤ It gets a little hard at some spots, but nothing impossible. VERY original and creative idea. I have the demo with only 2 abilities and I got to every room. :P

Sound: 0/10
¤ Some of this wouldn't be too bad.

Overall: 9.3/10
¤ Very nice game, would love to see this taken to the very end. I'd want to help you with it if your taking a partner... -_-

But yes I love it, I'm getting the next demo now

Wow,Im actually enjoying this game, its actually pretty fun and the mouse movement is original. I like the "portal" kinda sfere of the game, but I have one,freaking,complaint..

Make it a damn fulscreen game!

God christ and all other from above the movement annoys the crap out of me,my cursor keeps shooting out of the window! The gameplay is really ruined by using a window,so for the sake of the human being, all animals and insects,Make this game fullscreen!

also, how can you even imagine a round object jumping on a 10 by 10 pixel big object? Of course you slip off! God you made this game by far too hard, challenge is one thing~but if challenge is based on how criple he controls are, then screw it!

Thanks for the great rating, would you mind if I quote you in the sub title?
It's funny you said something about the message box, I was just thinking yesterday I needed to get a better font....personally I hate the one I have now and I'm looking to get a different one before I put out the second demo. As for the sound, I am not to good at making anything in that area so I usually get someone else to do it for me, I'll try to get something soon.
As for helping me, I have 2 main needs, sound for one and a level designer, and I'm also looking for ideas on objects for the levels, ATM they are pretty....whats the word.....drab? If you or anyone else could do any of those things for me I would appreciate it, just PM me.

Progress on the second demo is coming along nicely, I just need to make a few more levels in the second world. Also, as of Cronus's post this is a hot topic!

Very hard game. I got the power up that lets you float and the one that lets you stick to walls. The first HEX shouldn't have one block... blocks. Those are the only ones I've seen so far so it's actually EASIER later on.

I got stuck. I couldn't get out :D! I had the floating power up and the sticking power up, 26 glow thingies and I had to get rid of at least two 30 blocks! No way to go. It's in that room where if you begin in the first room, then go up and go to the left with the floating power up.

Love this game, but, I thought it was rather annoying when I would just graze the side of a spike and have to do everything again.

Have you got any plans to fix that?

I do plan on having save points in the levels, and I could make it so that there is a bit of leeway for the spikes too I guess, if thats something that you think would make it better.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I forgot to mention the spike thing as well, and I definitely do. Hitting the side of a spike won't kill you, but in this game, it's one of the biggest reasons for dieing.

I'm not sure whether I want to make it so if you hit the side of the spike you don't die but I meant I could make it mave a mask so if you hit it by a few pixels or less then you don't die.

@Cronus:
I'm glad that you are eager for v2, so to give you a bit to chew on before I release it, here are some of the things that are going to be in v2:
Another world, the main level that connects all of the worlds, another ability, another ability upgrade, better message boxes, save points, ease up on the difficulty of world one, make a menu system and a better save system, and throw a few secrets in there.
I'm a bit pressed for time as I'm writing this post, but I think I'll edit this post with some screenies of the new features. ;)

@Samus:
I'm glad you like it, and ya I've had alot of comments on the difficulty, so I'm making world one easier in v2.

[EDIT]
Still working on screen shots, but just so you know how I'm doing, I added a progress section on the 1st post.

[EDIT 2]
Here we go some screenshots for your enjoyment:

It's the new ability!......but how do you get it and what does it do?
Posted Image

So this is what it does.....
Before
And....
After

Finally the new message box!!
Please like it....please like it.....

I've also updated the first post with what I've done again.

Hey Camie, as you may remember I have contacted you recently by PM, but that's not what this is about. First of all I would like to say: To anyone reading this topic, this is definitely worth playing. Words cannot describe it. Not even 'uber' or 'epic'.

Second, I would like to volunteer myself to level and object ideas and design. I think that I'd be able to do a good enough job if you gave me details on what you wanted.

You could just make the room change one 'block' earlier, and use an arrow to indicate where it changes. Or just surround everything with a one block perimiter of black.

Oooh, I just kind of realized my situation here...I can still make it fullscreen cause if I do and just keep it at 100% then it will be just like a window, but it will have black all around the edges, which you can safely click....I will upload the fullscreen version soon. :(

Cool game, but make the game save after every upgrade, I just got killed 2 times after I got my new Ball-sucking upgrade...
EDIT: And a map would be nice ^^ . Just don't know where to go now...
EDIT2: I'm stuck... I've got 12 of those balls, 3 upgrades (just normal one, launchers and attractor), whole world 1 completed and I can't find a place to get more balls. Help plx?

Thanks, I'm glad you like it. :)
Hey...a map...that's not half bad...I think I'll add one!
So you have all of the shadow rods lit in world 1? Have you found where world 2 is yet, and if so what have you done there? PM me with answers, I don't want to get a mod edit of the topic saying not to cludder the topic with conversation.

nice solution to fullscreen
that would work
and map is good idea

and is audio going to be inserted?
even just little sound effects for death and globalls and stuff would make the game a lot better :)
