Everything was a little too dark for me and everything lagged for me too. I'm guessing it is my computer but must of the stuff seemed pretty cool.

Seeing I can't really rate it seeing I could not play that much I would just add a screen shot in this topic not the old one.

The frames per second is indicated at the bottom left. It should be 45 most of the time.

Go in the Effects Options and reduce the effects. Just above the minimum settings for everything. You can also remove the Name tags and the AI Chat.

Also, you can go in the Screen options and Make the game 640x480 for the window and the view.

It is nothing short of fabulous! :)
Great job guys!

I did notice a typo in the 'ReadMeNow' text document. Toward the bottom after "System Requirements" it says "Any computer bough after 2004"; I think you meant to put a 't' after bought. But that's no real problem, I think, because most people don't read the ReadMe's anyway :D .

I am curious, are you done working on this game? It would seem so, seeing as you posted this version here in the Creations forum.
But I'm just curious, because I thought of one option you might want to add. Difficulty levels. Most (if not all) high quality games like this have a difficulty setting, so you may want to add one. That would smooth out the learning curve a bit. After all, you did make the AIs pretty smart. Might be a little tough for a newbie.

It was months ago... you played my Tank Game and wanted the music I used in it and so you got it AND LOOK WHAT HAS COME OF IT!!! You turned into a DARK VILE PERSON with no morals or no concept of crediting somebody for a good deed...

..So this is how liberty dies...

Oops typo. Ah well.
Well, since I'm working on another little project and o()o is going out in the real world. (Summer job). We won't have much time to dedicate adding more and more stuff so, asides from fixing some spelling mistakes, add credit ommisions and fix minor bugs, this version is prety much locked. New features will go in version 2...

For the difficulty thing... Nah, just select a strong tank for an easy game.

If you select the right combination of components, each game can be over pretty quick too!

First, I would like to apologise for any omission in the credits. I am icuurd12b42, I am not o()o and have not prior knowledge of your statements or underlying deals you made with o()o. So, I will forward this message to o()o to confirm this information and add you to the credits when all this is confirmed. All I know is the music changed like 4 times through all the iterations.

Surely, from all the credits listed, you realise that a lot of people have contributed to this game and the omission was not intentional. Hopefully, you are the only one we missed.

Wait a minute. You guys spent almost the entire wip topic asking for a better name, and you never changed it? The name is horrible. Just pure and simply horrible. Please think of a new name, it's really not that hard.

I'll edit when I try the new version of this poorly named game.

EDIT: Well, I tried it and I was very disappointed... wait, that's not right, I was blown away like all the other versions. I love the buying system and the new weapons. During the mission it did a kind of lag. I didn't really notice it, it's just what I did happened later.

Superb game. I'm still wondering though. Why do you give such a crappy name to a glorious game? It makes it less perfect.

Im running the game on a new fast computer, and I have these mouse/keyboard issues. Everything sort of freezes for for a second.
Its really really annoying to lose controll while other keep playing just fine. Is this part of the game?

Ahh my deepest apologies jcarmack. I had intended to put your name in the credits, but i must have forgotten in the mess of things. Please do not criticize me saying I am a bad person. It was simply a mistake on my part. It is easy to lose a name when dealing with so many names in the credits. I have asked icuurd12b42 to put your name in the credits

I knew people were gonna flame the name of this game. Forgive me for glorifying the name, but I think that the name is unoriginal and yet original. Its like so standard, and yet so innovative. That is my very poor defense for the name. "Mechanical Warefare" and "Dead Treads" Came pretty close, but we couldn't agree between the two of us, so we settled on the first one.

Are you sure you are not being frozen by EMP pucks or electronic leach or freesing blocks or being shove by a force push?

Mission 3 (I think), in the desert, hunting down the convoy. A lot of tanks have them. It gets me everythime.

Hehehe. Well, after thinking a long time about it and perusing through all the names, The Tank Game made sense. Because of it's simplicity and unpretentious nature and the fact that no one will wonder/forget the name of that famous tank game. In fact, I was thinking I could have a whole series of games named in the same way. My appologies to everyone who participated in naming the game, we all enjoyed it very much; in the long run, I'm pretty sure it was the best decision.

The game I'm working one, with Halowars, AKA All Out, is top secret hehehe. o()o got a glimpse of it. It quite different from the usual stuff, though a lot of what I learned from the Tank Game will be reflected in the design. We are looking for some help at this point, specifically in the graphics area. PM me if you're interested.

Version 2 of the tank game will be after that project, if my attention is not needed elsewhere.

I personally think that after a name has stuck for so long, It just can't change. The WIP was around for months with the same name, and no one could come up with a better one. If it had been changed very early in the process, that would be differant, but it was just there for so long...

And none of the names were very good anyway :P

icuurd: work on the first post a bit, this needs to be its own thing, not a link to the past one. In a way, this is being lazy, you could simply re-create the post in this one, and it would be better.

Btw I believe the lagginess is caused by the game priority. It is currently set to high. I have advised that icuurd12b42 set the game priority to normal.

Are you sure you are not being frozen by EMP pucks or electronic leach or freesing blocks or being shove by a force push?

Hooray it's finally finished!!

I designed some of the crate graphics and two of the tanks, and had planned to help o()o out with this, towards the middle (maybe he remembers me). I was the first to keep a tally of the suggested names. But then I became too busy, and disappeared from GMC for a month. Now I'm back, and I can't wait to see the final product! Will edit soon!

I update the file and played with the priority settings. Try it out and see.

Hooray it's finally finished!!

Of course we remember.


I updated the download package with minor omission fixes, typo corrections and website reference fix. Also, I set the priority to normal. Less people should experience lag though the game will be slightly slower.

Use Dead Treads. There, now you don't have to use this crappy name which is original in no way, shape, or form.

Sorry I'm so harsh, but... wait... I'm not, this game's name sucks. It deserves better.

If you think it's a way for people to remember it, think again. If I didn't know what this game was before, I'd figure it was some noob's game and not even bother. The game makes you sound like noobs... Trust me, that's far from the truth, and don't make me, and other people think so.

Very nice! This game is incredibly detailed, and is simply awesome to watch when you turn the effects all the way up. However, I also have the freezing problem, even with the effects turned all the way down. It sounds like a problem I had when playing the game in window mode when I clicked outside the game window and the game lost focus. Are the beeps windows style sound (Another app has focus) or are they computer speaker beeps (Keyboard overload indicator). Were you playing in windowed mode? That would explain the beeping. Also, depending on the task bar settings, if you are using the mouse and the game is in full screen, it's possible to place the mouse at the bottom of the screen and actually click the task bar, making the game loose focus.

Well its nice to see my name in the credits of a finished game. Although I came in at the end of this development I believe I contributed some. I hope to be able to start out with the crew on the second one. Yes, icuurd12b42 is on our team called Ground Up Games along with Bladebuddy and I. So be on the lookout for our games. We are taking our time and doing a good job so it will be a while till a demo. If you would like to join, we are trying to keep things small although that might not be a possibility with Icuurd being so good. We have select openings and I will create a topic soon. We will be looking for the best to keep our quality as high as possible.

Keyboard overloads are commun with old computers and cheap non usb keyboards

The only thing we do is read the keyboard... I'll add a io_clear call at the end of the keyboard read code.

Meanwhile, try mapping the keys in the options to regular Alpha keys only. Keep in mind that some key combination may not work if you have a cheap keyboard.

Also, try this little app.

See if you get a keyboard overload with it. Also useful to determine what keys can be pressed at the same time.

The web hoster I set up the web site on (hostonmars) does not allow .zip files. And my host-a is getting too low on bandwidth and space. That's mainly why I went to yoyo.

o()o will try to upload the file on 64digits.

With those 2 sites set up, it should be sufficient.

Well, the WIP has been around for The Tank Game since January or Febuary, and you said, on June 29th that you had been working on your game for 3 1/2 months, so that means you started in March, after TTG started. Maybe your game was influenced by TTG?

(About the updates) Not often. Only to fix bugs and to pack in new maps and update the map editor help file (if people start to use the map feature, I will invest time in it).

Besides that, this project is locked. New features and improvements will be in the next version.

I mentionned this before, in the WIP, if anyone would like to add maps, give it a shot, PM me for help if it's not obvious. The option is available in the Choose Game menu, Mission Menu, scroll right until you hit New/Edit Map. You can also change the map directory to the map editor tutorial area. And load the file to play from there. In the New/Edit Map menu, you can select the file from the tutorial area (Using the commun file dialog) and edit the map, see what a basic game looks like, modify that and save the file (ESC + Save As) using new file name.

Wow... I finally managed to get the game from this computer to mine to play, and it was amazing! If it wasn't for the speed issues, this would be undeniably the best GM game ever made-- and it's for free!

Cool suggestions. It's possible to make easy games and tutorials using the map editor you know... If you name the map files right they will appear in the map list first. It's just that I have little time left for it with all my time dedicated to the next project. I would need someone to volunteer.

Perhaps if I added a story line and better mission maps… But, I lack greatly in that area. If any one of you is interested in helping out on missions or story, please tell me. I can make minor changes to the game to support many missions and add your name in the credits.

There is no need to wait since missions can be implemented using the external map files via the supplied Map editor in the game. Even objects not in the game can be created in the map file using the map editor's code box or notepad; one of the sample files show how to do this. So, no code changes would be made in the game itself.

Like I said. the only thing stopping me is time and map/mission skills.

Sure thing.

You can check the tutorial maps. Highlite the file in the Choose game menu. Press F2 to change the directory and select one of the tutorial folders. The press F1 to see what's it's about.

To create a new map, click the right arrow until you hit New/Edit Map option.

In the next menu, Click the Select File to load and existing file or create a new one

When you have a file set, change the room sizes and click Edit. You can change the room size of an existing map this way too.

In the map editor, ESC will bring up the menu. You can save (as) from there.

Load up my tutorials, look at the type of objects I placed in the room for each type of maps to determine the kind of objects you need to add.

See what you can do with the standard out of the box objects. you can also access all the internal objects for more expert type setup. Like dropping health/weapons/money or specific tanks

I suggest you start by creating a few non-mission maps first (scored games and conquer games) they're pretty easy to make.

The last tutorial set shows how to add stuff that does not exists in the game.

Look at the map comments to guide you one what in each tutorial and how to access stuff.
