I remember about a year or more ago there was an unofficial GM Magazine here on the forums. It was filled with reviews of games for the month, tutorials, interviews, and some other cool stuff. Of course the guy ran out of time and stopped the magazine. I was wondering if anyone was going to take up the task again, I think a lot of people would enjoy it. I wish I had the time to do it though.

There are three main magazines at the moment: MarkUp, GMTech and ICGM. I don't think we need another "official" one.

The one benefit of an official one would be that it would, by extension, be affiliated with Mark O and YoyoGames. Which means that YYG would have a way to get news out to its community about what it is working on. Which means that YG would actually communicate with its users. Which would be a nice change...
But an official GM magazine would also mean that YYG would have yet another thing on its plate, and it seems as though they are swamped enough as it is. They'd probably have to hire an editor to take care of it. Maybe they could go with the best of both worlds; put out a monthly YYG column for the unofficial magazines to run. |

I agree with tsa, and probably you would be kicked out of the magazine team if you were too late because they always want to be able to count on you.
I'm in GM tech. I wouldn't want to know what would happen if we'd team up with YYG. |

All that I can tell you at the moment, is that something is happening about this

Either that was a huge give-away or you're taking the mick. I just hope that YoYo Games isn't going to blunder in here with "a new magazine", showing us content which the other magazines have already got involved in. I'm all up for them giving us news about what's happening but they should stick to what they're good at (working with Game Maker and their website).
Though you might mean that MarkUp is becoming official. In which case, congratulations. Though I'm jealous, you deserve it... Then again, I might have completely mis-read that... |

In my opinion, a good official magazine would result from merging existing magazines into one, big, good magazine. Ofcourse, everyone just wants to have their own site, and be in total control.

QUOTE (esh_corp11 @ Jun 5 2007, 05:32 PM) In my opinion, a good official magazine would result from merging existing magazines into one, big, good magazine. Ofcourse, everyone just wants to have their own site, and be in total control. True, but also consider different purposes. Whilst your magazine (and GMTech) are aimed at more hard-core GMers who want to do every efficiently and perfectly (no offence, I think that's a good thing), I see IGCM as more "at one with da kids". It appeals more to new users of GM and people who just want to feel included in the big GM world. Though I personally don't think it exploits that oppotunity well enough. |

You're right about that -- but what I'm noticing is that these magazines are simply not reaching to their full potential since the GMC and the writers are divided to three magazines.

Yeh. Maybe merging them is not a great idea but I'm sure they can work together to make sure that each one does what it's best at..

Yes Grego, what you are saying is true. It's sort of easy to distinguish if you look at the names.
GM Tech , MarkUp - "Tech" already makes it look like it has pretty much inside GM tools and stuff, and the same sort of for MarkUp. Then there's Indie Game Central Magazine. The title is not related to Game Maker at all |

No. But IGCM, as I understand it, plans to expand beyond Game Maker to also look at Indie Devs of flash, Java and suchlike. Though the focus will stay on Game Maker.
And yes. I do have my hands in many pockets. |

MarkUp, in its first couple of issues, tried to expand past GM. But the furthest away we could do is C# and C++ hello world articles.. so it was better for our dignity if we sticked to GM

Yeh. And I suppose you can't really leave GM now... You're sort of stuck with it, if you see what I mean.
