I have GM 6.1.
A while ago I had the registered version... many months ago.
All that changed when one day I opened up GM like I always do... and the nag screen popped up. "WTF?" I thought. I looked throughout the various D&D commands and to my horror the registered-only ones had that little "REG" sign over them. I was, for some reason, completely unregistered.

I whiled away the unhappy millennia making games, and none of the reg-only functions worked. Many, many games I had before made with 6.1 registered didn't function anymore, so I lost tons of projects (or at least their functionality).

I thought about buying a registration key again (I didn't care if I had to shell out another $20, Prof. Overmars is cool and he should get thousands of dollars for this great program)... unfortunately, it was too late. GM7.0 was out and 6.1 was officially an "old version" (I'm not planning on getting 7.0 for a while). Even if I could buy another key, I'm not sure if I really wanted to because I really don't like YoYo Games very much. I suppose, actually, that if I could, I would.

Can anyone help me discover what happened, or find another way to get a 6.1 registration key?

Thank you in advance, if anybody can help.

EDIT: Spelling error

Buy GM7 and open the gm6 files in GM7 :medieval: Otherwise you'll have to talk to Mark. If you lost your key too bad. Thats why Mark always says to keep a copy. Although it looks like you hard drive may be corrupted because what ever the location GM stored the key is missing. Did you do a system restore or something similar to that?

I attempted a system restore, however, it didn't work. I did check my registry and I couldn't find much relating to Game Maker, but I don't know if that's strange or not.

I did keep a copy of my key, but I lost it. Stupid me, I guess. =P

EDIT: In fact, yes, it's probably my fault for losing the registration key. Meh, I just wish this hadn't happened.
EDIT2: Oh yes, I don't think my hard drive was corrupted (emphasis on I don't think so) as nothing else strange happened that day, and I don't know how it would be corrupted.

This happened to me. I think it happens when a game made in the non registered version is opened and run in the registered version.

System restores actually cause GM to unregister itself, since it wipes out most everything. I'm speaking from experience.

You can try to have your key resent by going here. Hope that helps. :medieval:

That's impossible. Registration information is not stored in the gm6 file.

Nope. When a program stores its key in the registry, it will usually know better than to name it something like "GameMakerRegistrationKey"... lol

What do you have against GM7 anyways? It's just an improvement from GM6.

It happened to me when I made a GM6 file change the date randomly (using a bat file) when the date was set before 97 or something like that, it unregister. I had no problem putting in my info again. So if someone knew about this they could make their game unreg you.

I noticed your plight, so I might as well attempt to help. When I registered, I got a confirmation e-mail containing my registration codes. This has happened to me as well, and that e-mail was a life-saver.
Just a thought.

Afterward, I was so paranoid I memorized my code. :GM072:

Hollowgenshine is right! Opening Game Maker when the date has changed removes that Game Maker has been "registered".

I don't know the precise date though. I think if it is changed to before Game Maker was registered on your PC.

Just upgrade to GM7 guys, or contact someone at Yoyo game directly. I'm sure they'll help, unless it's an illegal key.
