How explosive, you ask? Well you can go from this...

...to this!

Here are the higher res shots in 800x600:

Mission: Havana (1)
Mission: Havana (2)
Main Menu

Helicopter Cacophony 3 is a joint project by myself, Him (enemy & civilian sprites) and YoMamasMama (main heli engine & physics). I hope you enjoy this demo, which includes a tutorial, two levels and a host of options.

The final game will include tons more objectives, bosses, levels and bonus games...I am going to strive to make it the best game I've worked on yet.

It's nice, going from a puzzle game (Acidbomb) to an all action blastfest that I've been craving to make for a long, long time. I hope you enjoy it!

http://www.vertigoga...t/NVHC3demo.zip (12.2mb)

Note that the game runs in a 800x600 resolution.

Enjoy, and let me know what you think! :P

I really enjoyed watching everything blow up. In fact, I decided to blow up more stuff because of that. The graphics are above average, but some of them just don't seem to flow with one-another.

Thanks! The music was converted into ogg format, which you can find a converter for around the net. The dll files were done by http://www.un4seen.com/

Does it run slow on your computer? Or just the design?

I was worried that all the stuff on the menu might hamper the performance a bit.

Good concept, good efforts, n00bish / unoriginal game title - Game title does not make me want to download it but given I am curious I did it anyway Also what's up with "YoMamasMama" dude, don't spoil your games with lame n00bie titles - I mean unless your game is about pimping, dealing drugs and gangsta, then you need to find yourself a new name so that more people would want to play your game ! :)

pwned.
and now for some criticism.

Honestly, i was expecting a bit more graphical effects. It felt like i was playing something that was knocked up in a couple of minutes. The graphics were a bit out of place (as someone mentioned above) and generally i felt the quality was lacking. I have played the previous Helicopter cacophony games and they were quite fun, Seeing as this is a demo i wont hold it against you....this once >:) =)

Music reminded me of ET?
Try making the smoke particles plain gradient shapes (it may look better blended).

LOL, I was talking to Greg24. :D

I don't like the setup as much. I liked how 2 looked better, but it might be me. ;) It was fun exploding buildings, but I think it took too much time. Also the bomb took way to long to load. >_>

But as you can see I've been hanging on the bad stuff, overall it's great! :P

I loaded up HC2, just to compare, and I think you're going in the right direction considering it is only a demo. There will still be a small HUD (displaying weapon availability), and extended (not just thesmall scrolling text) mission briefing (debriefing also?) right?

On the topic of menu design, I dig this new one. It looks alive! with all the stuff moving in the background. How about when you hover over a word, the cursor changes to a hand, or a little rotating star appears next to the word and then fades out when you leave the text?

There seemed to be a bit too much debree and smoke going on with the default settings. It's more realistic, but I enjoyed watching the ones crumble in HC2 a bit more I think.

I'm sorry my screen name is so awkward for you. Feel free to call me YMM or simply refer to me by my real name, Matt Thorson.

Anyways, looks good Mr. Chubs, love what you've done with the engine, and it was a pleasure to have contributed.

I'll stay in touch for further coding if you need it, sorry for sort of dropping off the face of the earth for a while there (twice). Didn't mean to leave you hanging on several occasions.

My only criticism on the game so far would be the objective ticker at the beginning of missions - to me the letters and background blend too well together, and it can be tough to read.

Was not talking about your screen name (which is highly unoriginal too) not annoyed as I could care less about it - My concern is the GAME TITLE - :(

Yay!!!!!! I love this game!!!! :(

Seriously. This game is awesome.

Finished downloading. My favorite level in HC2 was the nuke level, however I believe the explosion wasn't big enough *wink wink, nudge nudge*...

---------- JUST PLAYED -----------------
O. M. G.!!!!!!
That is freakin' awesome!!!!!!
Few suggestions though:
* Smoke from buildings (the smoke at the base of the building once you've destroyed it alot) should mostly appear behind the building (very hard to see the building)
* A Nuke level

THAT IS A PROFESSIONAL GAME. You could easily sell this if you wanted too. I know I'd buy it.

--------------------------------------------

P.S. YoMamasMama is a member.
