Depends what type of game.

For example: I am giving the player 48 hours to complete the game that I am working on. It is going to be second for second and that works because it's a First Person Shooter.

However, what about MMO's and RTS's? You can't have those exactly in REAL REAL time. It would be tiring stupid if you waited a week for a base to be completely built.

if the game has any features that allow you to do different things at day and night then you shouldnt have time in real time, because then people who cant use a computer during certain times of day would miss out. I would just decide on how long you want a day to be. Maybe like 24 minutes.

Like others have said, it really depends on what kind of game you're aiming for. If the game is an RTS or a game similar to Zelda that features a day-night system, than you'd probably want a small amount of real time (such as 10 minutes) representing one "game" day.

On the other hand, RPG's like Final Fantasy, puzzle games, and certain platform games use the same ratio of hours/minuts/seconds as we do in the real world.

Despite what I've said, it's really up to you what you want in terms of game time relative to real time.

It's a bit like an rpg...and I think I'll make it so that certian things are available at night time. I have got it now so 24 minutes real time is a day game time...I'll try that for a little while I think.

So for those who play World of WarCraft, where the game has REAL real-time, is it really day for those who play during the day, and vice versa..?
-Even if they are at the excact same place in the game..?

EDIT: Oh no, I was not going to doubble-post. -Sorry about that. :P :)

I think in most mmorpgs they have a set time for the game that is kept in real time.
