Hello GM Community! Some of you who have been here for a year or more will remember an old website that I started: The GM Iso City. The GMIC was a website with an entire town full of carefully pixeled buildings that linked to everyone's GM related websites and forums and such and everyone was invited to join.

Today, I decided to relaunch the site at a new location with brand new templates, new rules, a new layout, and generally new everything. This is your chance to be a part of something big! Get your name heard here on the new GM Iso City 2.0!

  • YOU DON'T NEED A WEBSITE TO HAVE A BUILDING!
  • Your building should be semi-decent and have taken substantial time and effort to create.
  • Make sure that it fits the 2x1 rule of isometric pixel art.
  • Your building can take up at most 4 city blocks. Anything more than that requires emailing me ahead of time with a good reason or explanation.
  • Your building must be in transparent gif form to fit into the map correctly.

Let me know if there are any other rules that need to be stated or any other information needed!

I remember this from a long, long time ago... thought the project was cool, but it seemed to die off after a while. If I have some time later tonght, maybe I'll throw together a building or something. :rambo

by the way, this kind of thing would go really well with 64Digits, in my opinion. perhaps you should talk to 64D's creators / admins and see what they think about linking the two sites, if you are interested. Anyway, good luck with the site.

Using the template you've given you can get about 5 pixels of height before you reach the top of the image?

Actually you can get about 10 or 15 pixels of height, more depending on how you place the base of your building in the block. Look at the 'The Griddle' building for an example of what I mean. I'll make a better template image right now.

CapnChubby, I slightly updated the SodaHertz building. You can directly link to the image if you want. Joseph (Newly Discovered - Our artist) might want to change it as well.

I updated the page to directly link to your image, but I've also saved a copy for backup purposes. If your site goes down I may still use the building but just leave it static or link to the GMC as I did in the last city.

If you end up replacing the image with something inappropriate I will remove your building and track you down and put a guilt trip on you. THINK OF THE CHILDREN! WILL SOMEONE PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN??!!

Don't worry, we're a semi-professional organization. Besides, the rest of the team will get angry at me if I do that...

Whew. I'm glad you're semi-professional. That means there will only be half a goatse image there then, right? (Just kidding of course.) My main concern is that this Iso City is on my actual website, not Geocities, and any content like that could get my site blocked from my university's network, and that would enrage me. So this is kind of a warning to everyone, don't do anything stupid that could jeopardize this project or my website.

Alright, these buildings have been added to the site. You may now choose to place your building downtown or in Pirate Cove. If you don't specify where you want it, I will place it where it looks best.

Here's my building for "down town".

Is it Okay If I make a little house or something for pirate cove too? ^_^

Also I have some suggestions for GMC ISO City.
1. Add some life to the town, a few fake people and cars driving around wouldn't certainly brighten things up.

2. Perhaps, make a chatting system, were online GMCers could come and chat in the City.

3. Maybe make the mouseover titles say who contributed the buildings. --you know the "alt=" in html. ---

4. Add some physics. Like night and day, rain and snow, and little recreational areas that link back to the GMC or something. Just a thought

Oh, and maybe you should post a topic in the Graphics forum, it happened to be by chance that me (a spriter) happened to be browsing around when I found you. :)

Gaming4JC
Edit: I forgot to mention were to link to :rambo

Here << That :D

This post belongs in this subforum. Anywhere else it would get moved here and accomplish nothing. Also, only one building per website.

Right now I'm working with WorkMan161 to try out a different version of the site, so I'm not sure if I want to implement too many things yet, but here is what I think of your suggestions:

1. It is up to the users to create the content for this project. If you want to create small animations for me to place on the map you can do so.
2. A chatting system would be too difficult to code and it's unnecessary as the site is a supplement to the GMC and the GM IRC chatroom.
3. The person who contributed the building is the person whose website the building is linked to. The new version of the site may have extra functionality that would allow me to give detailed information on the author, but for now, no.
4. There will be an area to link back to the GMC eventually. As for physics, it'd be too difficult to code for a webpage.

I hope you understand my decisions. I will add your building as soon as possible.

Dave

Hopefully I'm not straying too far off topic here (and other mods, tell me if I am :rambo ), and I know these buildings can be whatever we want, but I think a couple of you guys ought to work a little more on your buildings. Make them more like what they should be, not just a huge rectangular building with a bunch of words slapped on them.

A DLL Factory building could be a factory, with smokestacks, a conveyor belt coming out, etc. The CGM building could be a church, or something?

Oh well, not trying to intrude, just inserting my two cents worth. Everything else looks fine, but maybe only limit the buildings to one plot. The bigger ones now are just too nondescript.
