Just a quick q: What's the difference between Game Maker's synthesizer and Anvil Studio's? I've made some really good .mid tracks that i want to use, but when i open them in GM some instruments get really warped and sound terrible. Why is this? It's getting really frustrating, and i hate having to export to .wav all the time cuz .wav files are large.

anvil studio probably uses the midi mapper which makes all midis sound awesome while gamemaker uses the hardware midi synthesizer.
You can change the synthesizer in anvil studio f i'm not wrong.
Then it should use the sound card's synthesizer.

One thing to know with midis is that you can never be really sure about how it will sound on specific computers other than your own... whereas most of the midi banks built in your sound card are quite similar to each other, but there are exceptions where it makes a difference.

okay bumping this topic yes i can change the synthesizer but GM must have its own or something...none of the synthesizers on my computer, when Anvil switches to them, replicate the sounds made in GM. It's pretty frustrating right now because i have really awesome tracks made and GM keeps warping them.
Does it take more time preloading the sound (via the little checkbox in the sound window) and using an external media player?

GM uses DirectSound and should use Microsoft General Midi Mapper, I'd have thought. Another possibility is that the midi messages in anvil studio are not supported by the synthesiser GM is using (sometimes pitchbends can get misplayed). If you want you can send me the midi and i'll have a look at it for any midi messages which might confuse it.

If a midi in GM is not played through media player, it will sound very different with the weird changes GM does...
Just use MP3s or simple up-to-3-instruments midis.
