Hi! I created new action images for the official libs (and ragarnak did replace them).

Download All Libs on my new site:

http://www.rubysoft-...akerlibs.6x.to/

I like them. Example: Posted Image

Modifying the official libraries may not be legal. The library builder refuses to open the official libraries (which can be made to do the opposite) due to some specific reason.

But if you create games with my libs and give them to another, the game runs good and only the visual part in the creator (not the game) is changed.

The primary reason there is that "bad things" happen when you use reserved lib id numbers.

I have a friend who asked Mark if he could take libs and modify their bytecodes so that they had a lib ID below 1000 (reserved), and here's Mark's response (compliments of the friend who asked him)

I am sorry but I cannot give you permission for this. id's smaller than 1000
are reserved for official libraries. If people would be able to overwrite
these it would cause huge problems.

Mark

Aside from that, I don't see any reason to be concerned about changing the images of the original libs, but you'd better ask Mark first. Also, you'd have to find out some way to change them, since the Lib Builder won't let you open them.

I didn't change what happens when using the actions, I'd only change the images

yes, like I said, I don't see anything wrong with it, but you'd better ask Mark first. That is, if you can figure out a way to actually change the sprites.

Edit Judging by the libs, it looks like you already figure out how...

By either patching the lib or LibBuilder itself.

Even though Mark stated that all official libraries have IDs less than 1000, it seems that all the IDs have their value as 1 instead rather than simply <1000.

Its better to seek permission from Mark or an Administrator/Moderator. I recall an existance of a GM skinning tool launched sometime back.

Asking the forum staff permission for this sort of thing is pointless as we have no authority over Game Maker, just the forum. In other words, ask Mark.

Anyway, did you consider sending Mark an email saying that you've made alternative versions of the icons and allow him to use them?

Mark may use them if he want. I'd try to send them to Mark, but mailing him fails.

more likely patching the lib, since they are easy to decode the format, infact it has been done already, and all you would need to do is compress the images with a zlib program and then insert the bytes.

another thing he could have done was change the library id to allow it to be edited in libbuilder, and then changed it back when he was done.

And how should he do that?

Actually, unlike the gm6 file, the lib files do not compress the images, it just takes them in as bmp.

Like I said before, to alter the game ID of a file you cannot open, you would modify the bytecode. When it comes down to this, you are highly encouraged to contact mark before doing so, to make sure that it is legal. Thus you'd better figure out how to contact him, whether that means fixing your email so that it does send to him or getting another email address that can do the job.

Sorry if i get you wrong, but it seems that your hidden purpose is to get people registered to your newsletter, not?

Anyway, i doubt that Mark would like it if you edit the official libs, in my opinium you shouldnt have act before asking.

And i dont see much of a difference to the images, only the borders are changed, and why would you want 'better' looking functions? it doesnt add anything realy.

-SR

And that's why I don't need to ask Markov. It's only the visual part that changed. And the reason why someone wants to have my libs: They look modern. Thats all.

I want to say something more:

Some of those new action icons have not only changed borders. For example: the Call event, put some comment and Exit this event are very different.

And when subscribing to my newsletter, you get every month one lib. Not only the first three, all libs. And one lib I created myself comes too.

So subscribe on my site!
