Battle City X

Genre: Arcade
Resolution: 320*240, 640*480, 800*600, Fullscreen
Multiplayer: 1-2 players on a single computer
Joystick Support: Yes

Battle City X is a remake of Battle City game I played on NES back in the early 90s. You control a tank and your must protect your HQ from enemy tanks. If you hit red tank, a random bonus appears so you could power up your tank. In my opinion the most fun part of the game is the 2 player mode.

I have tried to copy the gameplay and add some extra features to it. I've added extra terrain, new enemies, new bonus items, ability to load maps from files and saving your hiscore, what you could not do in the original game.
You can play original Battle City levels recreated in this game.

Features:

Create and play your own levels
Hi-score saving for each set of levels
10 types of enemies
10 types of bonus items
New terrain (mountains, swamps, dense forest)
Up to 40 enemies on a single level
Up to 10 HQ buildings on a single level
Up to 10 enemy respawn spots
You can set respawn spots for player and enemies wherever you like
You can set HP and bonus for each individual enemy
Secret settings and cheats (check read me.txt)

Note that the enemies and bonus items that appear depend individual map settings.

OK. I've finaly done with level editor. So now you can create and share your own levels.

At first week the game got about 10 downloads, as a beta it got about 60 downloads. I don't know why people aren't intrested in battle city. Yes it's pretty old, but hey Super Mario and Contra also old but people play it even today. Besides, many people told that battle city is one of the best games released for NES.

Oh yes, forgot to add that I've added another level called DEMO. This is pretty much randomised sets of 30 levels that I've created to show what level editor can do.

As I can tell it is similar to the tank game I once played on nitendo(i think it was that platform. Anyway as I called thata platform as "TV game"). Brings to remember old times.

DOOD, ITS A CLONE OF AN OLD GAME. That means he copied the sprite stile of that game, and from the screenshots i can see he really did a good job. I remember how i played this game while i was 4 year old... That was my fav game

I don't know why did that happened. Maybe its because its neeeds to extract maps before you can play it and your computer stands in safe mode or something. Is that always happens?

pure_evil, you just bumped a 4 months old topic... now THAT's pure evil <_<

Well, since it's already been bumped, I'd say I actually love your graphics.

Very retro style, and retro is cool!

I admit - the graphics is old (1985) and all those people who grow up on HL2 and DOOM3 think it's crap. So what, I haven't made those, namco did and some sprites came from Dune 2. I just wanted to remake one of the finest game I've ever played as close to oridinal as I could.

Edit: My review

Well I havnt really played the old game you have tried to remake, but I will say what I think could be improved.

The screen res. I find the screen to be a little small, I think it would be alot more playable if it was up front more and the sprites were a bit bigger.

Even tho this is a remake, you dont hafto make it exactly the same. I think you would get more people interested if you added abit of origionality to it of your own.
some kind of twist...
I noticed your a fan of duck doom delux, This is also a remake. but With improvements and its own origional twist!

Try to do the same and I think you might get abit more interest in the game.

I'm not the best at AI myself so I cant suggest how to fix it, but I think the game is a little too easy. Perhaps make it so the tanks actually try to seek you out and attack you instead of randomly shooting at any wall.

i'm glad the un-needed stuff you posted on my site has been removed. and I hope this post helps you in some way.

Cheers. Tom :)

One should remember that it isn't good graphics that make a good game, but the actual gameplay. These NES games were classic, and though this is a clone, a good job was done.
