Painajainen
Painajainen is a Finnish word meaning nightmare Painajainen is a dream-like story of a boy who gets trapped in his own nightmare. Move left - Left arrow key Move right - Right arrow key Fly - Up arrow key Esc - Exit Enter - Skip intro/Select/Go to Map-screen If you get stuck in a wall press E - to get out of the wall. 1 2 3 4 5 6 Download Painajainen(You might need to save target as) This game was made in two weeks for a Finnish game competition. The competition can be found in here(site in Finnish). Thanks to J-Factor, for his transition engine. This game was inspired by Seiklus and Velella so lots of thanks to them. This game is not a ripoff, its more like a tribute. Feel free to comment. Virtanen This post has been edited by Virtanen: Jan 3 2009, 03:23 PM |

Well that's unique. An original, nearly-professional game. Great work.

Yay, I beat the game. It's very amazing.
BTW, before the review starts: QUOTE You can't open the chests, they somehow open later, there are those colored orbs inside. The chest opens when you collected the corresponding firefly; there is a picture of the color that you need underneath the treasure chest. Also, this took me a while to notice: Collecting fireflies gives you different abilities that you need to complete the game. The ability isn't explictly said in game, but usually there's a piece of the mechanic near where the fireflies hang out... Anyway ... I got hints if anyone wants them (but figuring it out yourself is 99% of the fun!) Also: Bug: If you press 'E' while you are stuck in a bubble, you'll go back to the start but you're still stuck in the bubble, and you can't get out of it without quitting and reloading the game. Also, occasionally I'd have trouble with getting stuck in the wall in the dark zone of the world. Anyhow, here's the review: Graphics 4.5/5 Can you say amazing? Everything was consistant all the way through and done with top-notch quality. Sound 4.5/5 There were many music selections for each of the different "zones" of the world, each of them fitting perfectly. Also there were subtle manipulations with the volume / stuff which enhanced the atmosphere of the game. Definately recommend turning sound on here. Engine 5.5/7.5 The game suffers from a couple of bugs (I think it might have something to do with falling too much in the three-shape area, also the bubble bug see above) Just a standard platform engine, nothing too special Design 7.5/7.5 Excellent. The game gives you minimally enough instructions so that you can barely figure out what you're supposed to do, which is 99% of the fun in this game. A lot of things are confusing at first but everything clicks together by the end. Replay 7/8 Suffers a little from being a relatively short game (unless you're bad with puzzlers, then it might take a lot longer, heh) but if you haven't finished it yet it has full replayability. Overall 29/33 |
