I've played your game and I must say it's pretty addicting. I got stuck in one level and I thought 'Well I'm gonna stop now or I'll break my keyboard', but I just couldn't leave the game and about 30 minutes later I was playing the game again.

A couple of things I liked about the game particularly:
- The graphics (sprites for the player character and the enemies). They somehow reminded me of Settlers II
- The enemy AI. The dogs were just scary, they were able to swim and even climb up ledges. And even the Soldier enemies or whatever they are, come after you when they see you. Really cool!

This is probably said before, but I think the game lacks a storyline. Questions like: Who are those crazy scientists? Why do you beat up people? Where am I going? are questions that popped into my head while playing. I don't know what happens after the (first?) boss, but I also wondered who the hell this boss was...

I don't see any major improvements you could make in this version of the game other than that.
It's a great game, and a lot of fun to play!

Oh, one more thing: the music, it's great, and it really fits the mood of the game, but it may get a bit repetitive after a while.

This game became one of my favourite game maker games. I love it!

I'm still watching it, just downloaded the new version, i'll tell you what i think.
this game is really amasing for one made purely from dnd. hell its amasing anyway.

edit: in fact its the only reason i come back to the forum anymore as i have lost interest in coding for now

I had the story all planned out, and you get a hint at it if you press F1, but I never got round to adding cinematics or anything like that. Mabye that's something I should do before releasing it proper. Here's the backstory in brief:

In an alternate history Nazi Germany won World War 2 and became, with Soviet Russia, a Super-power. There was a nuclear war and both sides ended up in bunkers deep beneath the ground, where they continue their demented arms race. The story takes place in the Nazi bunker, where a Super-soldier has been created after many failed attempts, bred to obey his master's every order.
His master shows off his creation to an officer reporting back to the bunker's general, but this officer turns out to be a Russian spy, who promptly kills the scientist, becoming the only one to know your "control codes" - he then takes a blood sample and tell you to "get to the surface, let nothing stop you - start running" so as to use you as a distraction.
This is basically all an excuse for a super powered blond guy to fly kick Nazi across the screen: the various areas to travers were "Genetics (start area)", "Robotics" and "the Barracks"

Oh, one more thing: the music, it's great, and it really fits the mood of the game, but it may get a bit repetitive after a while.

The original music was "Du Hast" by Ramstein, indeed, the original goosestepping nazi theme came from that song. You're right of course, I also have a few Qualms about using music from another game (the two tracks are "Reactor" and "Boss Fight" from Final Fantasy 7), makes it seem less... serious a project - I'd like to make my own but I have no idea how - does anybody know of a simple game-music making program?

For MIDI music you could download Anvil Studio... it's free and quite easy to use.

Thanks, downloading now (as always will have to wait till I'm home to try it out though)

My laptop (at home) has a microphone so I might try recording some sounds rather than stealing from resource packs, Microsoft clip art (most of Supersoldat's sound effects are MS clip art) and any games I happen to have installed at the time (the screams in Supersoldat were brought to you by Rise of Nations).

The last few days one of my projects was been coming forward in leaps and bounds (pun) and is almost ready for posting on the WIP forum - this time I'm using all GML, particle effects and other cleverness, and I've planned ahead a bit rather than adding whatever features seem cool in a haphazard fashion. When I've bootstrapped that project I'll be periodically coming back and tweaking this one, no matter how tricky it it - I can't really explain why it's difficult to work on Supersoldat, but if I showed you the source, you'd understand.

I use FL Studio, it's pretty simple once you get the hang of it.

Good job on the game, it's amazing!

FL Studio is a lot better, but Game Maker somehow has difficulty looping FL Studio MIDIs (and even MIDIs made with other programs... I don't use MIDI anymore but when I did, I always made them with Anvil Studio because as far as I now Anvil Studio MIDIs are the most compatible with GM)

Anyway, Wilbo, good luck with everything! ;)

How do you get past the level where a sniper thingie is following you? There's also 2 buttons. Before that level there was sticky bomb training.
I can't figure it out, where the hell am I supposed to go...?
BTW, I think the game would look a little better if you would replace the background with a simple gray background...

Campadrenalin: sorry about the error - could you tell me where you were and what you were doing when it occured - I have a feeling that 114904 is the Player, but in theory that object should always be in the room, and if it isn't then the game should restart because, well, you're dead... I'll look into it.

How do you get past the level where a sniper thingie is following you? There's also 2 buttons. Before that level there was sticky bomb training.
I can't figure it out, where the hell am I supposed to go...?

When you hit the button on the left hand side a door opens on the right so you can access the next room, though I'm guessing if you didn't notice that it means that the door's not opening (?) - the confusing thing with that part is that you actually have to come back through that level, the sticky bomb area and the stealth area in order to progress - basically whenever there's a new door open, you go through it.

Since I'm in France, and using and AZERTY keyboard, a lot of programs are rather tricky to use - for example, WASD becomes ZQSD, so good luck playing any game that won't let you reconfigure your controls!

Ok, thanks. Didn't know I have to go back to the sticky bomb area.

I can't delete the post I made this morning: sorry for bumping but I don't want this to go unnoticed - work on Abomination is going very well and I'm making great progress, so I've decided to make Supersoldat Open Source as of, like 5 minutes ago.

Since it's built exclusively using DnD I think it'll be useful for new GMers and either way, for the same reason, it's become somewhat tiresome to work on (considering that I'm now accustomed to using GML, scripts, parents and particles).

Anyway, here's the Open Source thread :)

Supersoldat OPEN SOURCE

Also, this thread might as well be closed now and discussion moved to the new one - I will of course answer any questions you have about the code ;)

Cheers,

William

PS - High Quality: I fixed the link on this thread as well - have fun ;)
