I would like to bring it to everyone's attention that I quite prefer real-time strategy.
Now shoo my birds and make me an RTS game.

My favorite is turn based strategy. I'm including games like the Mystery Dungeon series and Final Fantasy Tactics in there, even though they are part RPG, there's still an element of turns and strategy in there.

I voted platform, because the general idea of maneuvering around and having to avoid obstacles or the like in real time I think is the most appealing part of computer games in general for me. But the puzzle genre is right up there along with it for me as well, and it peaks my interest when the two are combined somehow.

My favorite would have to be platformers. I love games like Mario and sonic but I hate the DKC games. Their too bland and boring for me.

I love a well done shooter (Far Cry, comes to mind, but I've played everything from Halo, to Call of Duty, to Battlefield, to ArmA), and I love a good RPG as well.
But Real Time Strategies have to be some of the best games, hands down. Games that require thinking, skill and at times, patience and cunning. Especially games like Empire: Total War, that are a little more grounded in realism and reality.

Why are RPGs the most popular genre? I think its because of the depth that they involve. Is that it, or am I missing something?

I know it is an old post:

Generally speaking RPGs need the least skills when it comes to reaction, timing, aiming, movements*, etc, so it is more compatible with gaming for relaxing. Looting is another thing people like. Plus the depth of story and the gameworld you already mentioned.

*) Those who say COD is the most popular franchise currently and is a shooter: It doesn't need any of the aformentioned to be enjoyed.

Real Time Strategy.
They're fun, they make you think.
Plus they're online so they have alot of new stuff everyday.
Plus they mapmakers, which make the game fun.
Plus they can get really cool mods, to add dinosaurs and that stuff...
Warcraft III The Frozen Throne I reccomend to all RTS lovers, it's awesome.

I like all! I made a shooter game, could you guys check it out? ;')

I'm a huge sucker for any game with epic plots....which in my experience, have usually been RPGs, so I voted RPG somewhere along the line. I do like RTS and fighting games too, as those three genres (RPG, RTS, fighter) tend to split gameplay into specific battles, which suits me really well. Love myself a game with a fun and creative battle system, no matter if it fits into any one genre perfectly or not.

I chose RPG, which encompasses the lesser-known genre of rogue-likes, which is by far my favorite game type. The depth and challenge of such games are unmatched in anything I've ever seen.

One of my favorite genres is a subgenre called 'Cinematic Platformers'.

'BLACKTHORNE' is a good example of one.

I just downloaded game maker lite and want to make a game like this http://kwiklook.blog...nd├║jargonzalez

The only thing i need to know if I draw the character or on game maker.

I also want to add some boss fight into it and the hero shooting fireballs.

OTHER:  Combination -- RPG / Simulation   Wing Commander: Privateer

As much as I do enjoy 3D Outerspace Dogfighting, and Ship Customization, with Wing Commander: Privateer, I wish there were more Outerspace Sci-Fi Exploration Games; because, I am an Outerspace Enthusiast who believes in "!!! NO WEAPONS IN OUTERSPACE !!!".

I grew up as a Pre-Teen during The First Space Race Era at a time when the USA Astronauts & the USSR Cosmonauts viewed each other as Friendly Colleagues in outerspace; even though, the USA & USSR Governments viewed each other as Military Enemies on Earth.

I chose RPG's, but I'm quite sad that I cannot choose two genre's.

For my second favorite genre, it is definately platforms.

Still got my Super Nintendo collecting dust in the closet. Whenever you feel down, there's nothing like some good old fashioned platformer games.

LOL

Platforms aren't Genres.

Any Genre can be played on any PC Desktop/Laptop & Arcade & Console & Handheld Portable & Smart Phone.

Genre has nothing to do with Game System Control Mechanics; although, certain Genres do play better with Specific Game Control Hardware (Keyboard & GamePad etc)

LOL
