The Woes are coming... and there's nothing you can do to stop them. Instead, hold them off as long as you can before they destroy your heart and corrupt all that is good...

"It is the simplicity of the battle that will overwhelm you."

Enjoy! Mocha Man is working on more sounds so I'll release a new version when those are done (right now there isn't very many).

I got the high score :P

So many good games are coming out recently:
Return of S9
And this!

I love it... except for the icon.

The graphics all fit and I love that there is an online high score table :P

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'll be trying to stay on top of the highscore board for as long as I can (futile, I know).

BTW about unlockables... there's 14 of them:
-2 Modes
-6 Special Attacks
-6 "Surprises" =P

And the game tracks over 40 stats!

Hmm...the gameplay bears a resemblence to one of my older games...though there are quite a few more features.

It's definitely fun. Simplicity is always the key to good entertainment!
Very nice menus and other GUI-related things.

Three big smilies for this one! (That's worth more than three normal smilies, btw...)

And the gameplay also bears a resemblence to one of YMM's older games! =O =P

Great job as usual, YMM. I've already made my comments... =P Also, if anyone likes the lowest/highest time stats in Useless (for some reason), those were my idea. <_<

The "surprises" are very nice (only got one so far >_>), but there's a bug when you level up with one on. >_> It's blaringly obvious, too. ...And ugly. =P

Third place! =D But now I've gotta claim a spot on the Hard list. >_>

Feedback

:P Who says simple games can't be fun!!! Hold of Red is one of those rare simple games that is both fun, addictive and with a lot of replay value and depth. And guess what, it’s brought to us by the (in) famous YMM. Hold of Red's graphics are simple. Basically, they are just colored hearts and a lot of red. But it suits the game and they are nice to look at. The particle explosions were really cool as well. The music was great and it was perfect for the game's atmosphere as where the SFX. The main game play is simple. Destroy all the moving hearts that are coming to you from all directions before they destroy you. However, the game play goes much deeper than that. YMM has added a great RPG-like system where we can gain levels to increase our stats. This is a very good system and helps when we get to the harder parts of the game (wave 12 was a killer). In addition to this, you can also view your stats, unlock some extras and submit your score to an online table!!!

:P My only complaint would be if we had a stat for how fast our bullet is. Maybe it’s just me, but I thought the bullets were a little slow. I know it adds more challenge to the game play but sometimes I fount it to be annoying because it was too slow. However, this is only a minor complaint and doesn't affect the fun factor much.

FINAL JUDGEMENT: Hold of red is difinently a game you should have on your PC. Its fun, addictive and has alot of replay value. Also, it will keep us busy for some time until YMM releases Jumper 3. Great game YMM!!!

How do you activate a mode? I never got a message I unlocked modes. I have a total of 51847 points on normal mode. It should be there.
Fun game. Better then the original hold off.

Edit: I see you've added some/an extra icon(s) on your site. I like 'em.

Edit: Oh I see, you need a score of 10.000 in ONE game. Your games are always hard. :P

Simple? Yep. Too simple? Very. This reminds me of a cross between Click the Ball and Typogun. It felt it was really uninspired and repetitive. It was really polished though, and although it was, I stopped playing after 20 minutes (I was hoping it would get better). After getting shot a couple of times, you no longer shoot, and you can't even move? after about wave 12, you have no chance of winning if you get shot a couple times.

If anyone else made the same game, with somewhat low end graphics, they wouldn't be getting NEARLY as much attention as you're getting now.

Of course. It's called bias. On a certain community topic someone said they'd bet if YMM made a horrible game (not saying this is of course) and if people knew it was from him, it'd get insane attention anyways.

Very high quality game, I just didn't really see any spark in it. It didn't keep my interest very long.. I guess I'm just getting a little burned out on "click and shoot" games.

Graphics: 7 (a bit too basic)
Sound: 6 (music was kind of annoying, and low quality.. not many sound effects)
Gameplay: 6 (fun for about 5 minutes, then it got boring and repetitive)

Overall: 7

After getting shot a couple of times, you no longer shoot,

If you read the help files, you can't shoot anymore if you run out of energy, until your energy recharges to 50%. This is called "Rest Mode". Sounds like you put too many points into damage and then just spammed shots.

and you can't even move?

That would ruin alot of aspects of the gameplay (and make simply running from the enemy more important than picking the right special attack for your playing style and upgrading your stats correctly).

after about wave 12, you have no chance of winning if you get shot a couple times.

Depends how you upgrade your stats. I've made it past Wave 18... as I'm sure many others have (judging frm the highscore board). It's all about knowing when to kill your combo.

If anyone else made the same game, with somewhat low end graphics, they wouldn't be getting NEARLY as much attention as you're getting now.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Not sure if that was supposed to be a personal attack, but I agree. People will view the topic more because they recognize my name from my past creations. What do you want me to do, create a second account and host it somewhere else? It also brings alot negative attention too (apparently I've made alot of enemies as well).

I'm sorry you didn't like the game, but judging by all your complaints besides "uninspired and repetetive" (that's completely your opinion, I won't argue that), you're just judging the gameplay on a couple plays where you didn't even correctly understand the concepts the gameplay works around.

I really enjoyed this game. While it may at it's heart (no pun intended) be simply a combination of several tried and true gaming concepts, it was constructed in a way to feel fresh and exciting. It's not something I'd play every day, but it will definitely provide a fun diversion every once in a while.

And you're absolutely right, Scuba. Based on the description, I probably wouldn't have downloaded the game had it not been a YoMamasMama's creation. Of course, I'm not a jumper fan, so for me I wanted to see if YoMamasMama had created a game I would actually enjoy. He did. Thanks, YoMamasMama.

The level up system is nice, but not too over complicated.

I have to say, this is the best of your games so far.

I'm determined to be the first, just need 20k on hard mode...
Any suggestions or strategies?
