Game Making Resources contains a sprites and a backgrounds section, which not only contains sprites and backgrounds from other sites, but also all the sprite resources posted in this forum.

If you wish to do more accurate searching on the GMC's Graphics forum, try using the Game Making Resources Firefox Extension.
