After almost two years of work, I am proud to say that Tower of Heaven is now officially released, complete with epic graphics, music, and retro gameplay.
For those of you who haven't heard of the game before - Join Eid, a tenacious silent protagonist, on his adventure within the Tower of Heaven, a mysterious monolith that promises glory to those who scale it and death to those who cannot. Collect secrets and conquer obstacles under the jurisdiction of God, rumored to inhabit the tower, and his ever-growing list of rules, which directly govern gameplay and make progress increasingly difficult. Tower of God has spawned a revamped retro graphic style (only 3 colors are ever used) and an epic soundtrack that pays homage to the classic tunes of the Game Boy era. A gameplay video can be seen here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lkBnQ27-Qrs -Awards- #11 in Indie Games magazine's Best Freeware Platformers of 2009 #27 in Gamasutra's Top 99 Free Games of 2009 Top 10 Finalist in 2BeeGames Indie Game Competition #2 Fall 2009 Voted Bytejacker's Free Indie of the Week, 09/03/09 -Press- http://www.destructoid.com/go-down-moses-f...en-144216.phtml http://www.destructoid.com/nothing-is-sacr...en-152483.phtml http://www.indiegames.com/blog/2009/08/fre...ower_of_he.html http://tigsource.com/articles/2009/08/14/tower-of-heaven http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=25342 http://gamerlimit.com/2009/10/free-game-fr...ower-of-heaven/ http://iplayeverything.blogspot.com/2009/1...en-pc-free.html http://playthisthing.com/tower-heaven ![]() Programming/Level Design/Original Concept - Aski Art, Script & Animation - Godsavant Music - Flashygoodness ![]() So what are you waiting for? >> Download << ![]() This post has been edited by Aski: Jan 5 2010, 09:48 PM |

Great challenge! I've always been a fan of difficult games. Currently I'm on the level where "the book of laws has broken". Do you know how far I am?

Very fun, and I love the art style, but it's unfortunately short. On my second playthrough (first speed run) I managed about 5 minutes with 10 deaths and 1 secret (code ab31o1562.20b8). The only thing left is the second secret. Well, keep up the good work. I'd love to see a sequel, or something similar.

We're unsure about a sequel yet because of how much work this small game took, but it's not impossible. |

There's one thing i got to say about the last level. Not-touching yellow blocks was in the book too, so i should be able to step on them too

The yellow blocks on the last level were crucial to the level design, but in a future update they may be replace with spike blocks to maintain the continuity of the game. ugh, I can't beat the "thou shalt not move left" one... I think you mean "that shalt not walk left" - That's your hint. |

Why don't you allow us to press F4 and make it fullscreen?
You should always let us make that choice. Edit: There's a lot of trial in error parts in this game that don't use any skill, just trying it over and over again...Spikes the only pop out of the ground when you land on them? This post has been edited by IQbrew: Aug 15 2009, 01:40 AM |

i want fullscreen!! F4. stretched to fit.
i liked everything about this game, the rules were really original and made the game lots of fun. not going left? lol, very interesting. good job. i didn't want to beat it though because its a little bit too frustrating. i got to the level where i can't look at the rules anymore, i never looked at the rules anyways, they r easy to remeber. i think there should be a health bar or something, not 1 hit and start all over, like 2 or 3 hits. Edit: There's a lot of trial in error parts in this game that don't use any skill, just trying it over and over again...Spikes the only pop out of the ground when you land on them? Because of the surface scaling methods, making the game fullscreen can distort and sometimes crash the game on certain computers. If I can find a way to prevent this, then I'll add fullscreen as an option in a future update. As for trial and error - look at the patterns on the blocks, hidden spike blocks can easily be recognized because of their distinctive pattern. i want fullscreen!! Thanks! Keep trying though, the game is actually very short and I promise you'll enjoy the ending. As for health - there's really no need for it, since each level can be completed in a matter of seconds and you have infinite lives. This post has been edited by Aski: Aug 15 2009, 02:32 AM |

Short, simple, and very fun.
"Thou shall not walk left"?! Gotta love deities with a sick sense of humor. Even moreso the ending, which really shouldn't fit the style... but it does. |

Awesome game. I really like the graphics, music, and level design. And while it was a really hard game, I wanted to keep playing over and over again until I beat it.

Great game! I can't think of anything that I didn't like except for one thing. I was stuck on the level where "you cannot looks at the laws anymore" for a while. When I got to the last challenge, I beat it second try. Does anybody else think the last level is easier than the others, or is that just me? 0_o

Beat the game, got 2 secrets but what do they do? Is speedrun also a bonus?
If someone is interested in those secrets QUOTE 1. Level "Thou shalt not walk left": Go ( or maybe "Jump" ) left all the way, don't go into the stairway. In the end of the level you should fall down. You got 1 secret 2. Level... I don't know. That level with the platform moving and you got to go above, then under that platform until stairway. Anyway, if you get to the stairway jump on the platofm already moving outside the level. You'll move along with that platform. There's your second secret Yay, smilies ^^ This post has been edited by Robii: Aug 16 2009, 12:18 PM |

Nice game! Graphics were decent enough. They worked their magic.
The rules were good, but they sure were frustrating! I had no bugs or errors with the game, so big props there. Overall: 9/10 I played as far as "Thou shalt not look at the rules anymore." or something like that. There is no possible way I am ever expecting to get anything even close to 3:30 on a speedrun. Finally, the soundtrack was indeed 'EPIC'! I loved all of the music. |
