Hi everyone! This a game I have been working on called "Horhay The Hedgehog"
It has a 100% NEW custom engine by me.

Type: platformer game.
Controls:
↑ = jump
<- = walk left
-> = walk right
↓ = pickup/throw bomb
Z = restart game.
F4 = Fullscreen/windowed.

:o Features.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

  • Old:
  • Pixle perfect collisions. (Using image xscale I might add.)
  • Better slopes.
  • Jump through platforms.
  • Coin block. (taken out, too marioish)
  • Pushable blocks.
  • Horazontal moving platforms.
  • Vertical moving platforms. (Fixed several bugs with these, now totaly perfect.)
  • Springs. (Now with an equal bounce regardless of whether you hold the jump button or not.)
  • Throwable Enemy/Enemy AI. (Currently making better sprites for them, so they're not in this version. But their programing is done.)
  • Doors. (Now fixed so you press the down button instead of the up button.)
  • Spikes. (Now with better collisions)
  • Death sprite.

    New and finished:
  • Jump through slopes, completely perfect and compatable with multiple players. (AKA no instance changing, just conditions.)
  • Switches. The kind you jump on and all non solid blocks become solid.
  • Bombs, dangerous to you and to pushable boxes. Throwable.
  • Donut platforms. (Not with donut sprites, but the same style falling.)
  • Ladders. Now I'm not talking glitchy ladders where if you touch them you automaticaly grab them like in Mark's example, no I'm talking REAL ladders. Where the character animates and everything and you have to actualy grab them to climb up and down.
  • Somewhat better graphics.
  • New jumping sprite.
  • Info signs.
  • Converted the WASD to arrow keys.

well, your engine does run smoothly. however, this is very basic! try implenting more features like slopes lifts and springs, i thought i would get a whole lot more with 4 mb. the song isn't really neccisary if it's only an engine :medieval:

The reason it's kinda big is because all my songs are MP3. I'm sure you know what that means. <_< Right now I'm implimenting the ability to duck. And that shouldn't take that long considering I know how to do it. :medieval: After that I'll probabely make moving platforms. :skull: So anyway thanks for the review. :rambo

Whoops, this could take a while. My computer's wireless intena tower has gone screwy. :wacko: So either I'll get it fixed within 3 days, or I'll update when I'm at my grandparent's place in Florada. (5 days)

I won't give up! This game will be great!!! So don't give up on me. :)

Started already, there will be at least one when I release the new demo. ;) stuped computer tower...

EDIT: The new version is going to be SOOOO much better, it's got fixed bugs, when you press right and left on the current demo at the same time you run in place. It's fixed in this version. Better level, better graphics. If you don't die from anticipation... it will be worth your wait. ;)

BTW: My engine is currently 95% custom. ^_^ AND... it's size has been reduced to like 3 MB. (dumped like 5 songs) and that's not the excutable!!! ;) It's also not compressed, or in a zip file!!!! :) Take that 4 MB haters!

EDIT#2: And to those who want to download, you may do so. But you may want to wait until I update in a couple days. ;) (looking back this is relatively lame compared to my current progress.) :wacko:

if you wanted it to sound like a spanish name then you write it jorge
EDIT: what i like most about it it's that it doesnt use a sonic-like sprite (too much of those)

I thought TLOZD was crazy and saying you should rename the character Geoge. Stick with Horhay, It owns

EDIT: 27 downloads!!! And my bandwidth is only 1/3 out. :P (referals, max bandwidth=600) So download all you want. My banwidth resets back to 600 8 days from now. ;)

YAY! :D And yeah, I relize it's spelled college... but I was rushing to go eat. :D

EDIT:
Added supporting userbar to first post. :P

EDIT#2: I'm rushing to get the demo out on time. :P I'm completely redoing the movement controls to make room for acceleration. ;)

EDIT:#3 Whew, that took a LOT of work. :P But I finished the acceleration codes, and added enemies to the level. The new level is still going to lack a little. (Prefecting the engine took first priority) But It's going to be a lot better than the current one. :P

I made a new user bar =D with horhay in some stylish new jackets :mellow:

(this took forever.... i used ms paint+ a userbar maker thing)

Bugawuga was just a tiny project that i made in a day for my brother and his friend when they suplied the ideas..(3rd graders) I already quit that project. :)

Naw i dont think he needs a hat, because if he does have one then he would be so covered up he wouldnt look like a hedgehog!

If your ganna use the jackets for the game just tell me because i would like to add just a little shading :)

But i think it would be cool if you could pick between different horhay's all wearing different things, mabey even hats.

Or you could make like a store were you can buy that stuff

Sounds cool, buying a different jacket sounds cool too. :) BTW: I don't think I'll be near a computer on my vacation, so I'll have to release an early version of what I had originaly expected. It will include...
[A] Smoother controls,
[B] Slightly smoother graphics,
[C] The abbility to duck without having to stand still first,
[D] Slight acceleration,
[E] And maybe a couple other little things.
I understand if you want to wait a week or two to get the complete version-2, but you may download the early one if you wish. :o
I'll release it tonight. :D
BTW: To you guys like the jacket look? Or would you guys like him better if he wore something else? :)

very good suer trombone :) i really like the ground that appears only when u r close and the walls that appear only when u are close really cool :) and the jacket is awsome no need 4 change :o

Thanks, I took that from the Fox engine. (Only imported code in my engine)
It's out everybody!!!
You might want to download it now... because my old one was downloaded 134 times!!!!! HOLY CRAP!!!!! :) So I have just about no bandwidth left...
But in 7 days my bandwidth will reset. :D
Anyone know of another (safe) place where I upload files? That way I get two mirrors, and more bandwidth! :)

EDIT: BTW remember this is version-1.5. Not completed, but it has upgraded controls. ;)
I'm working on moving platforms and enimies now. (enemies almost done) :o
And I'm sorry I couldn't finish V-2 before I had to leave. (leaving tonight) But when I get back I'll continue progress. B)

BTW I also programmed a new feature in there. :)
Have you ever tested a game and pressed right and left at the same time? Usually the character will turn into a certain sprite (no matter what direction your facing) and stop, even in the air it will be like an invisable wall stopping you from moving. Well try running to the right or left and then press the oposite direction key and you'll see the new feature... :o
(It's stuped proof!)

I keep getting unexpected errors when i play it though :)

O well onley 1-2 days till i get my windows xp back and will be able to test it..

The first version worked though... Mabey can you upload it as a exe and not zip?(if you want)

I don't know what exes are... :) But I zipped it so it would take up less space. :)
I works fine on both my computer and my parents, try un-compressing it to get rid of the errors. :o

Ok ill try(wow im dumb i cant believe i didnt think of that), but an exe is what you used for the first version

.exe(executable or sumthing like that)

This version should be an exe too. :)
The errors are probabely due to compression, I'll re-host shortly. :)

i love this game, of the more simple gm games this one is my favorite ;)

the crouching seems pointless tho, he gets one pixel shorter ;)

Yay! Horhay the Hedgehog! With my song in it! But I've got bad news, my thread isn't going anywhere, check it if you want...I probably will end up doing your other one but I will post it here rather than on my thread. ::lmao::

Anyway, I am really suprised at how bug-free this is...collision detection is perfect, everything...

A couple of ver minor suggestions:

- When Horhay ducks, he only goes down about a pixel...I think he needs to go down more.

- Whenever you die and the room restarts, the music starts agin. I think there should be a check for whether the music is playing, and if it is, don't make the music start again.

I'll keep checking on this anyway, see how it is going...

@nickolasr: You're not supposed to get past the hedge yet... :huh: Lame level so far. :GM068:

@And to those who mentioned it: The ducking thing I'll fix soon. :)

So far I have only found one glitch in this game. I wonder if you can find it... :D (BTW It's easy for me to fix)
[hint] The glitch has to to with pressing certain buttons, correct timing is crutial to finding it though. It's also not a major problem. :huh: [/hint]

BTW it took all three of my personalaties to draw it. :huh: I'll make it into a real sprite soon. :) But if you would like to try go for it! ;)
