9_6 - differences between the demo and the full game are stated in the demo itself, but it's not a problem to post the here. Here you go:
In demo you:
- Can play only 5 out of 10 characters.
- Learn only first four spells of each magic school - rest will be inactive.
- Can not save the game and continue it later.
- Can play only for 30 in-game years.
Hope it explains everything.
Well I grabbed the last beta, version 0.99.
I could use all the spells, could play with every character, could save, didn't need to use an installer and could play 50 years so I've pretty much seen everything in the game -except death.
The spell effects didn't change in the current version (I noticed nothing), and the gameplay also remains pretty much the same (surprise surprise).
The only difference I noticed was the working grimmoire and that annoying blue thing in the beginning that explained the game to me.
I was all like 'shaddap and lemme play now!' when I clicked away the textboxes and watched that ball slowly moving across the screen forbidding me to cast the spell I want to cast.
Aggressive mages (incantation, force) still kill pretty much everything (shield, powerup, fireball, fireball, fireball...) and the mages still just stand on their positions and don't move a muscle.
I mean what the hell? They are FIGHTING!
The mages are in desperate need of animation (just raising their staffs when casting a spell would be an improvement. Only one freaking additional frame!) because right now they look like lifeless puppets staring at each other in their 'battles'.
They have no character, they even all share the same pose and their sprite looks pillow shaded having no defined lightsource.
The sprites of the summons don't look better either.
Being a dedicated pixel artist it hurts my soul seeing that.
I would heavily suggest that you revise all the sprites in the game because they don't do it any justice.
The mages could have different sprites if they are hurt (standing, kneeing, almost down, on ground), they NEED different poses to give them more variation and at least one staff wielding animation frame is suggested too.
I'm saying that because all the game contains is two mages facing each other in battle.
You should make that look as interesting as possible, oterwise it becomes repetetive.
The mages could also be more different.
Like for example one mage could have more health, another one could summon creatures/ curse/ cast shield/... faster than the others, another one could start off with 2 blue/ red/whatever channels already opened, another one could only have 250 health but have the ability to rapidly open channels etc.
Right now the only difference is their special abilities and their edge but there could be so much
more.
Fighting several boss enemies with unique spells, monsters or anything but mages could also add more variation to the gameplay.
You could for example get an offer to fight a special enemy which gives many experience points but won't be so kind to let you live if you loose.
Despite everything I criticized there is something about the game that keeps me coming back to it and playing it again.
It's very addicting -although it gets repetetive after...5 hours or such.
