Is anyone else getting "Softwrap file error" when trying to load GM7? If you are and have fixed it please post how you done so. Myself and a few other people i know are all getting this error.
EDIT: Fixed to this issue was found by Rup13. QUOTE 1) Navigate to this directory on your computer: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\ 2) Right click the folder Documents 3) Select Sharing and Security 4) Under the section Network sharing and security, place a check mark in the box next to Share this folder on the network. 5) Apply changes. If at this point you get an error, repeat steps 4 and 5 again. (You'll notice that Documents folder has changed to Shared Documents) 6) Game Maker 7 should now run as normal. Note: After you have ran Game Maker 7 at least once, you should be able to reverse this process and still continue to use Game Maker 7 as normal. (this has not been confirmed with an unregistered version) |

You need Windows 2000 or later. I hate it.

Yes, thank you I needed somewhere to post this. I am getting the error as well. I have Windows XP SP2 so it can't be what Daniel-Dane suggested. Chronic what version have you been trying because I am trying the Lite version (if it makes any difference)?

The 'Lite' version referers to it being unregistered and this is the only version that we can download. To make it pro, you need to enter your GM7 reg key by upgrading your GM 5/6 key.
So i guess the answer would be, the Lite version (as i can't get it to load to enter my key). |

QUOTE (Daniel-Dane @ Feb 28 2007, 06:04 PM) I had Windows ME for a bout a year a long time ago. It didn't even need viruses to mess up... My first PC that was, and very almost my last. This post has been edited by Wolverine: Feb 28 2007, 06:07 PM |

I have no idea what causes this. You might want to contact SOftWrap (or YoYo Games) about this.

Could it be GM not being able to connect to their server? Looks like they are down at the moment.

From what I've read so far on the Internet it is an API used when creating your software to secure certain parts and offer e-commerce features. I read about DRM on their website and I know this can be a problem on some computers, perhaps the error is occuring because there is a problem with the way it is handling DRM content (e.g. also used in Windows Media Player). I'll continue to research.

also the softwrap system uses bits of IE (even if that's NOT your default browser) which can cause some errors.

Found a solution and it now works
1) Go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\ 2) Right click the folder 'Documents' 3) Select 'Sharing and Security' 4) Make sure the Sharing tab is selected 5) Under the section 'Network sharing and security', select the checkboxes next to 'Share this folder on the network' and 'Allow network users to change my files' 6) Apply changes (you'll notice the Documents folder change to Shared Documents). 7) Run GM and the error should be removed Hope this helps people with the problem, and if it does, glad I could help |

I can confirm this as a working solution to the problem
I had to do step 5 in two goes though, reviewed steps below. 1) Go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\ 2) Right click the folder 'Documents' 3) Select 'Sharing and Security' 4) Make sure the Sharing tab is selected 5) Under the section 'Network sharing and security', select the checkboxes next to 'Share this folder on the network'. Click "Apply". 6) Under the section 'Network sharing and security', select the checkboxes next to 'Allow network users to change my files'. Click "Apply". 7) Apply changes (you'll notice the Documents folder change to Shared Documents). 8) Run GM and the error should be removed After i ran Game Maker and upgraded to Pro, i was able to reverse this process and it seems that GM works fine. Thanks to rup13 for the solution to this, I shall update the first post with this information. |

Glad you got it working Chronic, shame about having to do step 5 in two goes though.
@ghostgirl - It depends on what operating system and service pack you are running probably. Also if you don't have a network, and are running a direct connection to the Internet you may not need the folder shared. I don't know why some people do or don't at the moment, but all I can say is I am glad that this fixes the problem with those who couldn't Edit: If you run only one user on your computer then that could be the reason why as it doesn't need to share to insert the Softwrap directory. The problem I believe is caused by not being able to access the directories inside your Documents folder in All Users until you share it. This allows Game Maker to copy the needed files into the folder as it is now able to access it. You are able to reverse the process as the files will remain in the main directory and it can then find them. This post has been edited by rup13: Feb 28 2007, 07:51 PM |

The error showed up the first time, but the second time clicking the Upgrade button was enough to turn my version from Lite to Pro. Maybe that will work for others as well.
The softwrap registration process in french was messy. They have the good characters but the meta content-type doesn't show them (à, é, î, etc.). YoYo also seems to have problems with these characters, the "Your Gamemaker 7 Activation Code" email removed the î in my name. Back to finishing my first extension. Which makes me wonder why Mark didn't associate the .ged and .gex file types (or at least the .ged one). This post has been edited by Quimp: Feb 28 2007, 08:12 PM |

My folder was shared, but I still had the softwrap error. I unshared the folder and then shared it again, which made the error go away. Strange.
