I haven't released a game for a while,. I had several ready to go, and was just tweeking out some of the finner points,. when some foolish kids kicked in the door to my apartment and stole most of my stuff,. including my computer and most of my back-up dvds. Needless to say this was very disconcerting,. and I am still quite angry about it. However the only choice is to go on, and try to get to where I would like to be. I borrowed an old laptop,. and installed GM6 only to find this lappy don't have the video memory to run much,. so the next thing was to fall back to GM5! Ok, so I will make a simple game that MORE people will be ABLE to play in the end,. as it will be playable on lowspec. machines,. To keep the game SIMPLE, I went with an old skooly game design,.based on the bally/midway classic SpaceZap.

here is the latest iteration: [check your i000 number]
http://iterationgame...erZAP__i025.zip [2.8mb]
or if you want it uncompressed,. i.e. win2000 like me now,. :D
http://iterationgame...erZAP__i025.exe [3.6mb]

the only controls are;

ARROWS or WASD to play,. .

SPACE to pause
ENTER to restart
and ESC to exit

there is no in-game help, as it is simple to figure out,. shoot red stuff,. collect green POWups..

I added the combo system so that if you hit multiple targets quickly you get X points. the game is set to run at 40fps and only slows slightly here on the P2 600mhz machine,. I will add some high-score saves and the sound is still being worked out,. but i like it now so I posted it for you.

UPDATED: graphics,. added a niffty background,. some more sounds,. and some spikes! sorta' like what TEMPEST has,. they stop your shots making the game a lot more interesting!

update i023
added a shield object,. now, as before, when you press a direction before the shot has hit anything the shot is destroyed,. however NOW a motionless shot or a shield element is left in its place,. a new shot will kill old shields,. and if you hit a green POWup all shields will be destroyed,. this means that if a POWup hits a shield all are destroyed as well,. ok it is simpler to play it that explain it! have fun,. . .

i035 - small things changed,. . geting better i think,.

Download doesn't seem to work. :) Click the link, a blank white page pops up, right-click and save and it says it's done downloading, but doesn't actually appear on the desktop. :/

Pretty neat game. I really liked the sound. The graphics and special effects were done very well too. Yeah. Nice work!

Sucks to hear about all of your stuff getting stolen. Hope the thief's guilt overwhelms him, so he decides to bring everything back, perfectly intact.

Friggin' awesome :)
Definitly stylish, uber creepy sounds, which work very well!

A great time killer, that is fun to replay because the build-up in levels is pretty quick and continuous !

Play this game, do it : X

thanks guys,. I'll keep working on it,. may do different sprites for the different attackers,. add the high-scores, and balance the progression a bit more it is quite random,. at least every play is a bit different! I have an idea to add some lines moving from each hit in a combo,. to accent that part of the gameplay. and the sound needs work,. . NOTE: this is simply to build into an coin opertated machine i am building,. with four buttons on the front panel and a coin slot.

Just noticed this on Independent Gaming. Looks like even your demos get coverage. :)

I like the way the sounds make this game get pretty intense. I got 6592 points on my first try. It's already fun, and I look forward to seeing what it turns into.

"Aether" isn't copyrighted. It's just a word.

Anyways, this is great. It's an amazingly simple concept, yet I can't think of it ever being used before. Like tapeworm said, the sound is very well used, and the particle effects are wonderful as usual. Once again, you've astounded me with your ability to make something that's abstract but still lots of fun. Of course, I didn't expect any less.

My high score is like 1600. I suck at games.

thnks jabberwock, . yeha perhaps he thought they made the word up,. anyhow the corporate lawers can kiss my,. dongle. as the corporations are claiming to own far too much these days,.

I updated to a new ver,. i021! check it out, added a new obstacle in the form of four giant spikes that are moved towards the player's base as the other targets move over them,. this greatly changes the game play and makes it even more hectic!! updted some sounds,. and changed some sprites,.

Really sad to hear about your stuff being stolen. I was wondering why you hadn't released anything new for a while.

It looks like you are able to cope with setback of having to work with an older version of GM. The gameplay might be slightly too simplistic at the moment, but I bet you'll be able to spice it up before it's finished. I really like the graphics and sound as always, though. I'm looking forward to seeing what you can do with this in future updates <_<

It was also really fun to see your Return to Wor. Wizard of Wor Remix is one of the best and most inspiring GM games I've ever played.

yeah cactus,. it is a shame when crackhead junkie's have to resort to burglary to get their drugs of choice,. if you cant afford it without busting into some hard working wageslaves HOME rumaging through all their hard earned and personal stuff and taking most of it,. then you need help,. or perhaps help ending it! yes I am still very very angry,. . .

as for the game play it is intentionally very simple,. as i have said having only a borrowed 600mhz p2 laptop i can;t even run most gm6 games,. so its back to basics,. We will see how strange it becomes as i 'finnish' it,. . .

Another great game from IterationGAMES!

I loved 100 invaders and lockon. Keep up the good work.

BTW: What happened to your website? There used to be more information about the games and your company/game studio. Are you still trying to sell your games as an indie?

thanks oldskool,. the web site was being rebuilt when i was burglarized at Christmas,. i will ad what i have left eventually,. . what i was inthe process of doing was to go through all the old games and make them windowed to start with full-screen as an option, like they all are now,. however i lost all that work and many unreleased games,. and music and photos,. etc,. etc. so if i ever get a new computer,. i will look through what back ups i have still left and see what i can put back together,. however currently things are not going well,. so time will tell,. . . back up all your source files to a net location as well as hard copies in your home,. you never know what will happen next,. aint' life grand?
