The music was good until the weird sound came, then it was a pain in the ass.
Typo: "What does "image_index do?"" The questions were a bit wrong, ex: "How to draw a variable" or something, you should note, if the variable is a string, string() is not needed. Also, you haven't checked this, I noticed several times that the question was cut because of the width of the window. EDIT: typed 'the' twice. I liked it. Graphic's simple but not dull, music suits a quiz and the question were mostly simple but there is an odd difficult one. The only thing I didn't like is the banner your get at the end and some gramer mistakes. I give it 7/10

QUOTE very very VERY easy questions. ... so how can this program predict you a master if you've only got beginner questions on there? My friend, I would have you on the lowest rank on any n00b test because you have made yet another n00b test; they've been done a million times, they're stupid, useless, and inaccurate. Work on something better, my opinion. Having a beginner, as this program states you are, being able to make a program that can predict whether you're an expert or not, is scarcely possible. You've even used show_message functions with stretched images, an extremely bright, awful colour, used Game Information, and stupid midi music. I understand this may not be constructive criticism, because, my advice is not to work on this; but next time, work on something original, simple, and enjoyable.-Rhys This post has been edited by RhysAndrews: Nov 2 2006, 03:34 AM |

I agree... this is overly simple. It does not test your knowledge of GM, it tests if you've read the manual at least once. It has spelling errors, it looks unprofessional, it has annoying music, the default font, and basically nothing to distinguish it from the countless boring n00b tests spewed out weekly. (I may be exaggerating, but.. eh). We don't honestly need a test to know if we are good at GML or not, unless it's actually challenging and exciting to do.

You know, you don't have to post everything you make.
I've made a game using only particles, a 3D game, a online 16 players ... chat, and such, but never released it as I never put any effort in it. It sounds like you just made it ... just to make it, it is okay, but what is the point by letting us know you made some cr*p in a day. But still, good stuff can be made in short time, most of that I've released (actually all of it, I think) were made in one day or less than three days, although they didn't get much attention I never was flamed. First reason is, I've never made a |\|00þ (noob) test. Tests sux, face it. You should sit down and think of anything that is both easy to make and original, or atleast nearly original. If you are going to post the game/app(/animation) you've made, bug test! The game you've posted is filled with so many errors (the first version you posted, I haven't downloaded the new one, but that isn't the point) that it is impossible to miss them. Of course there are errors/bugs that are harder to spot, but at this point it is alright to make mistakes. Conclusion: Make something that just looks like you have putten any effort in |

There were once a topic (in community, I think) about the tests, everyone said they hate them ...
To be honest, those that have that in their sig are noobs, a.k.a. young kids Final note, tests prove nothing, they can be so easily faked EDIT: Just noticed the quiz thing in your sig ... This post has been edited by Daniel-Dane: Nov 2 2006, 05:06 PM |

I am a
according to the gml n00b test! The test was ok... but it seems that the questions and answers are not random. And alot of the window stays unused... Some transition effects wouldnt hurt and the music was kind of monotune to me (can be just taste). And i noticed that some questions were wrong, or either no right answer. However, i liked the overal result, simple but good grafics. Not extremely large, but i wouldnt have used the show_message() function. 7/10 QUOTE (Daniel-Dane @ Nov 2 2006, 03:37 PM) You know, you don't have to post everything you make. I agree with RhysAndrews, but I gotta say this was more enjoyable than every other gml test since I am not very advanced with gml and I could finally answer to the questions. This is why it is called the Gml N00b test and it kinda stand out in that way. True that the polishing was horrible tho.

It's more of a debug function, and it's ugly

ugly mean... that it does not look nice, opposite of beautiful.
Well for single word translations you could use altavista (link) And you could add some transition effects between questions, and like Daniel-Dane said, show_message is usually for debugging only. You can check my test if you dont know what i mean with transition effects. (there is a link in my sig i think) Regards, -SR |
