Linked
Multiplayer Drawing!

Introduction & Features
Welcome to Linked, a drawing tool that lets you work on solo projects and collaborations alike! Linked combines a simple and intuitive drawing system with the power of the Reflect Account System to allow players from anywhere in the world to connect to each other and work on the same drawing, chat, and play games.

Using this program, it is possible to play all sorts of games! Hangman, tic-tac-toe, and pictionary are only a few possibilities! The chat system allows players to view the image that is being drawn while chatting, and vice versa; the player who is drawing can see the chat unfold as he or she works. Linked also provides the hosting player with the ability to limit the amount of new players who can enter, as well as who can draw and who cannot.

Linked began as an investigation into the power of Game Maker's surface capabilities, and wound up being much more. I truly hope some of you out there enjoy this game, and create some wonderful things with it, by yourself or with a group of friends.

Controls
Controlling the game is easy and is mostly mouse driven, except in the event that you're chatting with others.

While drawing
LEFT MOUSE - Click and hold while moving the mouse to draw. The faster your movement, the more narrow the lines drawn will be, best noticed in the medium sized pen
RIGHT MOUSE or LEFT & RIGHT ARROW KEYS - Click to cycle through the 3 different pen sizes
MOUSE WHEEL / UP & DOWN ARROW KEYS - Cycle forward or backward through the different ink colors
SPACE BAR - Clear the canvas
ENTER / F1 / MIDDLE MOUSE (multiplayer only) - Toggle the chat menu / host controls
F5 - Save the canvas (in multiplayer the filename will be chosen for you, in single player you can choose what to name your work of art)
F6 (single player only) - Load previously saved work onto the canvas

While the chat window is open (multiplayer only)
LEFT MOUSE (host only) - Click a player's name in the player list to toggle their drawing ability, or click on the host options below the player list to toggle them on / off
RIGHT MOUSE - Click a player's name in the player list to remove them from the game
KEYBOARD - Type to create a message to send to the group, press ENTER to send. Pressing ENTER when the message box is empty will toggle the chat window / host options closed
Chat commands, type the following commands into the chat window to activate various options in the game:
/help - Displays in-game help information
/topic - Displays a randomly generated topic (useful if you just can't think of what to draw!)

Miscellaneous commands
F4 - Toggle between windowed and fullscreen modes
ESCAPE - Exit the current paint mode / screen / game

Online Features
This game is compatibile the Reflect Account System! Using a Reflect Account, you can access online features in all games that use the system, via one login.

Linked is the second game released to use this system, and registering will allow you to create and join Linked servers, and play online! You can find out more by following the link to Reflect Games below!

Important
As with any online game, you cannot host if you do not allow the game to work through your firewall! Please make sure you have your computer and internet set up correctly if you want to host games. I cannot ensure that the game will work in multiplayer mode across all setups!

If you are having trouble hsoting a game, and are behind a router, the port that this game uses is 27782. Have it forward all TCP traffic on this port to your computer, and the game should host just fine. You can find more information on port forwarding here.

So every multiplayer paint program that is created henceforth is a copy of InkLink, eh? That is a pretty cheap thing to say, considering this program has no actual game built into it, and doesn't really have anything to do with InkLink at all.

Really, really cool program. I like all the sounds, graphics, and the idea. It was a really good idea to add /topic command, that'll keep it more interesting.
I like the effect of clearing the canvas too. This game is very professional, (when hasn't FredFrederickson's games been) and I give it a 9.5/10. The only thing I suggest adding is a little elevator music.
P.S. I'm hosting a game right now.
EDIT: And I found a bug! If you use the command /help until it goes off screen, it goes over the top of the textbox. You can fix it by just typing in a chat message, but just something you might want to know.

Once again Fred, you never cease to amaze me! This program is very well made, and i have seen no errors in it! I like the idea of being able to draw and chat with others online too, and this is an amazing program. Well, you have outdone yourself again my friend!

Again ? Heh, awesome. =)

Professional look you got there, the menus look greatly designed and the system (Reflect) works as always =P I had fun with the "singleplayer" mode, but if I have a chance I will test it with my friends, I'm sure they will like it =P ...exept that they don't like creating accounts at unknown sites.. =( But I guess they will register for this site when they read the FAQ.

The drawing looks really inky but the shapes you draw are a bit blockish.. But I guess that's the point afterall. I'm not a great drawer (cough) but I enjoyed this very much. There's just one but, the filesize of the saved surfaces is kind of big (1.2 mg in my case).. But I guess that's no problem at all =D

All in all, it's an another professional creation from Fred. Looking forward for your next projects =P

QUOTE (jls900 @ Jul 7 2006, 10:31 AM)
well to be honest i'd rather play with like 10 people on inklink or isketch then have to type in peoples IPs, but it still looks nice and good programming
*

blink.gif Uh, please try the game before you post here, you don't have to enter IP's to play this with people, ever. There isn't even an option for that.

Awsome! Finally a paint program that I can scribble with and still make them look cool. I haven't got to try it online yet, because I have no one to go online with.

Do I have to sign up with Reflect games to play online?

I only have been playing for 5 minutes and I love it, another masterpiece by FredFredrickson. 10/10. biggrin.gif

Very very nice. Simple concept, but done incredibly well. This has to have some of the highest quality menu's of any GM game.
