Megabot's birthday is just around the corner!

For those who don't know him yet, download the game and give it a whirl. You won't be disappointed. ^_^ Megabot is one of the coolest games ever made with Game Maker. To this day it is still being downloaded like crazy.

Megabot is a Megaman type game with a major twist on gameplay, being that you can fly with your jetpack. It is somewhat of a hardcore game, so it's not for everyone. Persevere and you will be rewarded. There is lots to do and discover in Megabot. Here are its features:

Nice sound effects.
Classic graphics with a PC edge.
10 unique levels, with interesting environments.

NOTE: The game has been EDITED a few times since it has been placed on the Game Maker site, so for those who have played the game before may want to download a newer one. The only drawback is that old save files won't be compatible. And remember the game runs in 320x240, so some video cards may not support it.

Yes this version is definitely a little easier than the first one. The most notable change is the fuel's ability to recharge. This means never having to worry about running out of fuel, that is unless you haven't charged it properly before a critical moment.

I also changed the distance between Megabot and the screen, so now there is more room when its scrolling. This avoids the problem of bumping into enemies because of Megabot's speed.

[jamesd]

Are you referring to that Laser Drone that is guarding the exit? Well there is no special trick or anything, you just have to be careful and time your shots in between its lasers.

TIP: Collect as many lives as possible in the Industrial District to make it easier to play the next few levels. Megabot's lives are PERSISTENT. This means the lives never reset to 3 like in typical Megaman games. The disadvantage however is that if you have 1 life entering a level, it makes it pretty tough to beat unless you can collect more.

[Ben]

Thanks man. I spent way too much time on this game last year. ^_^

The reason there isn't many replies is because this came out last year. All our comments have been used up.

This is a very good game, except the bosses are pretty lame.

I didn't like it really, It was good quality. But all the stuff moving in the background, that was confusing and annoying...

Yeah, the reason I posted now is because I wasn't registered @ the forums when it was released. <_<

That game disappointed me so much. The controls were akward, it wasn't fun, it wasn't original, and the gameplay was repetitive. The only thing that was good was the graphics. Graphics are not the most important aspect of a good game.

Don't download this game. The only thing Sandor Fekete can do is make a game with no glitches and really good graphics and graphic effects. Ironically, I can only make games with no glitches and horrible graphics.

No offense to him though. He just needs some original ideas for gameplay. That's all.

Nice Job, both were a little easy(that is just the way I am, I think megaman zero 2 is easy). High Quality graphics. A little confusing at first, and all my friends hate it because they think it is too hard. But at least I like it.

89% good

11% bad

Agh, what are you boys talking about? :o This is one of the only GM games that is not *utter garbage*. As I said, it's only problem is that the bosses are not that great (to easy compared to the rest of the game and they just fly around in a pattern). It's not original, haha, like every Megaman game since Megaman 1 has been original. ^_^

[Dr. Mean]

Whoa dude, you sure try to live up to your name doncha? ;)

Unoriginal? Well it's not exactly an outright clone either. ^_^ Maybe you should play my other two games then: BUBBLE ESCAPE and MONSTER FRENZY. They are somewhat more original than Megabot.

Megabot wasn't meant to be the next greatest thing since Megaman. I made Megabot to prove that Game Maker can handle full-blown platform games. It's too bad you hate it so much, because you will never be able to experience the whole game. There is more to Megabot than you might think. A whole lot more.

I am quite offended that you have summed me up so easily. "The only thing Sandor Fekete can do is make a game with no glitches and really good graphics and graphic effects." Thanks for the compliment I guess.... <_< , but it is also insulting. Try playing Bubble Escape and Monster Frenzy and say the same thing again.

In the meantime I don't see you making anything revolutionary either. :P

P.S. The controls are as intuitive as they could get, considering Megabot has 3 different types of guns and three different power levels for each. How would you have designed it then?

 Guys, guys. Wait a second. This is MEGABOT we are talking about. One of the most revolutionary games to break the bounds of Game Maker. It is a wonder that this was made before 5.0, because even with the little capabilities that GM4 had, Sandor worked wonders with it.

The gameplay is awesome. Identical to Megaman, yet with it's own twists. That a Game Maker Game comes into tie with Megaman's gameplay is astounding. It is a wonder that there is still more beyond that.

Don't diss Megabot. It was a totally groundbreaking game in its day.

On the other hand, Sandor, Megabot's time is past. It is not wise to dredge up old games. A lot of people will get mad at you. This may be an exception simply because it is a great game, but it still seems that you only wanted to milk some more praise out of your game. And 22 pages isn't enough for ya. ;)

Keep it up man. Bring us some new material though.

I have not yet dowloaded and tried the game yet, since itīs too heavy in filesize and I have slow connection.

So I canīt make a statement wheter I like it or not, but the screenshots looks nice indeed.

And since this apparently seem to be a thread where you brag about how great your games are, Iīll do the same:

Try Nenzall III, gamepad support. wee ;)

I have tried Monster Frenzy, and I liked it. I remember getting up to day 27 or 28...

And I guess I'd better try this too. :)

Taurus is a fantastic graphic artist -- do you do graphics as a job or something too?

[Shadestorm]

Once again, thanks for the support. I don't believe there is a single person who has played this game through to 100% and discovered everything else can be dissapointed with it. I tried to go above and beyond expectations for a freeware game in many ways by adding lots of replay value. Not many realize all the extras and special things about the game.

A GM user wrote to me wondering why there wasn't a thread about my game. This got me thinking and I came to the realization that there have been lots of new users since the migration to these forums. Lots of people haven't even heard of Megabot yet, so I thought I may as well create a new one to introduce the game all over again, and show some of the new GM users just what Game Maker can do.

[watergame]

Yes, I am a freelance Graphic Designer. Thanks for the compliment. I have been a graphic artist for a long time now, so I got me lots of experience under my belt. At 26 years old, this shouldn't be much of a surprise.

....

In other news I am indeed working on a brand new action/adventure game. This game will be significantly better than Megabot gameplay-wise. It won't be out for quite some time though.

Happy gamemaking
